HI , I bought a used Canon XS Camera. Camera looks alright on the surface .As i look thru viewfinder, it looks normal, but when the photo background is bright or white, i can see lots of dust/scratch all over the place. Note that even if i take out the lens hardware, i still see the same dust/scratch thru viewfinder.

However, having said that , the images i took seem unaffected.

I took a photo of a toy (see the first photo of the Flickr slideshow below)

DO you find it perfectly taken or can see some "dirty" spots?

Note the other images of the slideshow were taken using diff camera, so....can't compare

So what causes viewfinder dirty ? How i can clean up viewfinder?
If it's complicated, it's fine to myself as long as images do not get affected.

Thanks for your advice
tks

see if they show up if you take a photo of the sky, usually if there is dust on the sensor you'll see it someplace like that more than in a photo like the ones you posted but if you see it with out a lens i would think it's just the viewfinder. be careful keeping the lens end of the camera body open long or with the camera on cause it will attract dust into the body and onto the sensor and then you'll see a bunch of spots on the photo
you can use a little lens brush or lens cloth and cleaner to do the outside of the viewfinder. if the gunk is on the mirror that is more involved so i'd try the other stuff first.
