I am taking a Public Speaking Class and they videotaped everyone doing a speech and then played them back to the class. Seeing yourself in action on a video tape can be quite stunning. Someone said, "I don't actually look and act like that, do I?"

They say alot of Movie and TV stars will never see their own movies or shows because it is to painful.

What do you think about yourself when you see the video?

I don’t like the way I sound but other then that I like what I see. :teeth:

Ugh, it's horrible. I always think I look and sound awful...not at all what I think I I look like in the mirror or sound like! When I was in high school, my speech teacher recorded an eight minute speech I gave in class, then they played it for THE WHOLE SCHOOL in every singe classroom for "diversity week"! I wanted to crawl into my locker and die.

You'll be okay though. Other people won't think you look weird, just you.

My husband secretly videotaped me vegging out on the couch while stuffing my face with Halloween candy.

Talk about a frightening thing to see.

That tape mysteriously disappeared. :scratchin

I'm surprised your husband didn't mysteriously disappear with it. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We always told our son that if we held his hands, he would never be able to talk. he thought we were exaggerating. He took a speech class this year in school and they videotaped the speeches. The teacher must have been especially amused because he did a rewind for all to see after my son's speech was done. My son said we were right. And seeing it in fast motion was even worse than watching it in normal speed.

I don't even like hearing my voice on the answering machine! That's why you'll hear my dh, and not me!

I can't stand hearing my own voice. I feel sorry for people who have to hear it all the time. ;)

Does anyone know why you don't sound like you think you sound?

It is a GOOD training tool.

We don't like watching ourselves b/c it isn't comfortable.

My 5yo took an acting class and they said start them young.

You will learn more by observing yourself to fix certain things...than just a 3rd party telling you. It works. We've used the process with lectoring at my church and for radio--just the audio tape. It works if you can put up with yourself. The more often you do it--the more comfortable you become with watching/listening to yourself.

I don't know the real reason...

But I would guess b/c the sound originates with you--you are closest to the sound source.

I don't think I sound nasally--but on tape--I sound real nasally.

I HATED that part of speech class. I can handle it better now than I could then because my accent isn't as strong as it used to be.
