DS13 and I witnessed the Space Shuttle Discovery "night" Launch on April 5, 2010 at 6:21AM EDT from NASA Causeway launch viewing site about 6 miles to the launch pad for general public.

"Once in a lifetime experiences!!!” besides Space View Park, Titusville, FL and nearby areas.

Remember sound travels slower than light, you won’t hear the engines roaring sound about 20-25 seconds after takeoff from about 6 miles out.

The Ustream video was recorded with iPhone 3G [my LEFT hand] streaming LIVE for disboards.com community while [my RIGHT hand] with Sony Hard Disk Drive (HDD) camcorder on a tripod for close-up/zoom where DVDs burned for personal/home entertainment.

Do whatever it takes to go see one since three more day launches left in 2010 and then the space shuttle program will be retired!!

Thank you so much for posting that. We got up at 5:00am to watch the launch from the marina at the Wilderness Lodge. Even from that distance the eastern horizon lit up like a sunrise. It was beautiful.
What a great up-close view you had. I am jealous but at least I got to see a shuttle launch. That was always a dream of mine.
Did you happen to stick around and see the beautiful rainbow-colored trail in the sky the shuttle left behind for about an hour after launch? Gorgeous!
Did you also happen to catch the International Space Station pass overhead as a bright, steady-stream, point of light in the sky about 15 minutes before the launch?
As you can tell, I am a total space geek.

Yes...for 30-minutes after launch as we were told to be back in the bus.

Contrails are seen as workers leave the Launch Control Center after the launch of the space shuttle Discovery and the start of the STS-131 mission at NASA Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla. on April 5, 2010.

Yes...that was pretty neat!!

I also tivo'ed NASA TV via my iPhone 3G (DIRECTV apps) around 6AM that morning, DS13 and I just watched it on Panasonic Plasma, just not the same experiences except few good different cameras angles from NASA TV.
