Some time ago Pete made a comment about not wanting to do video of their weekly podcasts because of the silliness that goes on sometimes during the taping. Personally, I would love it if we could get video versions of the podcasts. I know this would be more work for Pete and the crew but it would be a great treat for us "Podcast Addicts". I never miss an episode and look forward to each new download.

Just to clarify my idea, this would be in addition to the audio downloads so you could pick either one. And again, raw unedited would keep the work to a minimum.

So, here is a poll, would you enjoy a video version of the weekly podcasts ? Yes or No.

Two more comments, one - I much prefer the raw audio and would have no objection if Pete just recorded the podcasts "as is". Two - Although I understand the reasoning behind the new multi podcast format, I preferred the single full length format, because I ALWAYS listen to everything, so I don't need to stop what I'm doing to download or start the next one.

I drive massive miles each week and listen to the podcasts! I can't watch a podcast so it would do me no good but I would like to see everyone! I go to the parks 1-4 times a year depending on how the year is going...I'd love to be able to say hello if I run into anyone while there!

Maybe a twice-a-year special event video podcast (ie, last year's Swan & Dolphin Food & Wine Classic podcast).

I think a couple times per year would be a good idea, maybe when covering a big event like the Food & Wine Classic or opening of some of the new Fantasyland attractions, different experiences on the Disney Dream, etc... but I don't think I would like it every week because I listen to the podcasts while I'm doing other things. I wouldn't have time to sit and watch a video for an hour and a half.

I'm not big on the idea of video podcasts because I think it might make it harder for them to be themselves, harder to work in breaks, etc. Plus it's a little like when they make a movie out of your favorite book....somehow it's just not the same as the picture that's in your head :)

Not to mention Pete would have to either blurr Kevin's face out or put one of those smiley faces over it to hide his identity to keep his cover hidden for his restaurant reviews.....

Like the idea of them taking the camera along on something like the Swan Dolphin event though. Bob's videos have helped a lot of people too so maybe someone can take up his torch ....minus the Kat Kham though...there will only ever be one of those. Miss you Bob :sad1:

Exactly my view here !

And this is a VERY GOOD point !

I voted NO.

The team doesn't want it so we could want it but when they don't want it it won't happen.....

There has been several times a discussion about this and the team made it very clear that they don't want a vodcast and they explained also the reasons for that.
People can vote all they want but it won't happen as long as they don't want it and i believe that there is no poll that could change that....

No video on a regular basis. I do like the idea of video for big events. But if Pete doesn't want video, we're not getting video.

So don't worry, be happy.:)

I voted no. On a special occasion, maybe...but you have to realize....the Pod Casts are NOT a part of the jobs they do....this is a bonus for us. I wouldn't want to take away any of this aspect. Besides, they've already stated that doing a video is not what they want to do. It is nice to dream though.

I think the only way it would happen is for live shows they do with an audience since they are already doing the show in front of a crowd. Two things Pete has made pretty clear is that the show will not be done over Skype and won't be video.

Doing a video podcast is difficult too. We tried to do one for the Disneyland show we did back in September and it just didn't have the high quality standard we had hoped. There was enough lag-time, too, that we often ended up talking over each other and that was a "complaint-generator" for many folks.

Until technology gives us what we need (from a variety of standpoints), Yvette is right - it won't happen. :confused3

I think it would be fun to see a video podcast very occasionally, like just for an audience show like the one done on PCC 2.0, but other than that I'm perfectly happy with just the audio show.

Not really. I listen while doing other stuff - falling asleep, driving, walking, wrapping Christmas presents, that sort of thing.

I wouldn't sit and watch it, I don't think.

I do like the occasional short video, though. I laughed myself sick the first time I saw the CartCam...it was riding from MGM to the Beach Club or something. No idea why I thought it was so funny, but I did.

As much as I would love to be there and see what goes on during a taping of the podcast, I know that it would be much harder work for the team, so I voted no.

If they want to surprise us occasionally and do some video that would be awesome.

You are confused between video podcasting and video conferencing.

The video conference technology is not quite where it should be yet. However, it is not difficult at all to produce a video podcast/netcast. There are countless examples of medium to high quality pre-recorded video podcasts on Youtube.

In addition, it is very easy to go live on Bitgravity, Justin.tv, and Livestream with high quality output. Ustream can provide live too, but it is a low bandwidth stream.

Again, I agree with you in terms of video conferencing solutions. Skype, ooVoo, and the like are not ready for primetime yet, but improving. Video podcasting technology, however, will give you most anything you need if you do enough research.

Video conferencing and video podcasting are two very different things.

Now that the technical stuff is out of the way.....

I agree with Yvette. Members of the team are not comfortable on camera and having their still photo taken.

We need to respect their personal decisions and feelings.:)

I think a once or twice a year video podcast would be fun. For those of us who can't get to the big Dis events it would be a nice way to "meet" the team. And so they wouldn't be on camera all the time, it could be an e-mail show that could be supplemented with video questions & reviews from listeners. If we want to see video then we have to be willing to put ourselves out there too!

However, I will listen to whatever the podcast team puts out, in whatever format makes them comfortable. Thank you for all that you do! :woohoo:

Hey Skip - not confused, though I can see where you would draw that conclusion.

For our multi-locational purposes (we were in 5 different sites across CA and FL), we were using the video conferencing for the purpose of recording the vidcast.

Needless to say, it stank. ;)

You are still confused.

You were not recording a video podcast. You were recording an audio podcast using a video conferencing software solution. Meaning that the audio from your video conference.

Ask yourself this one question......Was there any attempt to record the VIDEO from ooVoo??? If not, you cannot refer to it as a "video podcast."

Totally not confused. I do know my way around the technical universe. :surfweb:

We DID record our ooVoo. It was not up to expectations. Hence, you only got the audio. That audio indeed suffered from the effects of the fact that we used the video conferencing to do it with. We stripped the audio track from the whole recording experience.

Hence, I was right in the first place.... :littleangel: I love you anyway....
