DD would like a Video Now Player. I saw one at Kohl's for $69, and I have a $10 off coupon, plus I get 10% off when I open an account (which I plan to do anyway).

That would make it about $52. Is that a good price? We travel alot for baton (driving) and have many, many long days at competitions, where I thought she might enjoy it (sometimes the days are so long, that it's hard to play......the girls get so tired they can be short tempered, and feelings get hurt, etc)

Any info would be appreciated

Julia

Thats not bad. Target and Toys R Us have then for around $62.99

I got one today at Costco that includes 3 discs for $69.99. The discs go for around $9.99..sometimes $5.99 or so on sale so I am happy with that price.

They only had blue and white but thats ok for me

$52 is a good price for a color Video Now... I did a little research and just recently got one for my daughter for around $63 and 2 different movies for $5.99 each.. Since my total was over $75 I got a $10 TRU gift certificate.. I went ahead and purchased a case to hold it in for $10 so that way it will have some protection and also thinking about buying a plug so she can plug it in in the car without using the batteries.. I think that plug was $10.... I'm hoping to find a few more of the movies that my daughter would like before christmas..

I noticed the discs are getting hard to find! Not much selection most places

As a Toy Associate I just can't recommend Video Now at all. They do not support their product to the point of being able to trust that you'll find the discs in a few months... Last year they rolled out the B&W player with a decent selection of discs and accessories. Flash forward to August when we re-set our dept for Christmas we only kept the B&W Player and the 3 pack of Discs(no single discs or accessories) and rolled out the Color Version. I doubt you'll find any of the B&W products when we re-set in Jan for summer and I bet you wont very many if any color products when we re-set in Aug next year.

If you could use the color discs in the B&W player (you can't) I could see justifying the demise of the B&W discs a bit but personally If I spent the 50 bucks last year to get the B&W player I would be a little ticked that it suddenly was a "dead" product that finding additional pieces too was basically impossible

Personally I would invest extra cash and get a portable DVD player which you wouldnt have to worry about it being out of production in the next few months...

One product we are just starting to carry that looks a bit better than VN is JuiceBox. It looks to be more diverse and long term than VN- We just got our first box and itll be interesting to see how different it is...

As a soccer mom we spend many hours traveling to and from practices and games for my two older DD's. My younger DD also gets to tag along so she spends hours on the road as well.

We puchased the black and white Video now last year for them to use. It was a complete waste of money for our family. The screen is very small and the selection for discs is very limited. My girls did not like the fact that the dics we limited and not very long. It didn't take long (week or two) til the Video Now was in the back of the closet.

As a previous poster suggeted, I would get a portable DVD player for your daughter. We did this and the girls are so happy with it. Make sure you get one with a car charger (to save on batteries) and the cord to connect it to the TV. We can use it in the hotel room during our many weekends away.

Hi,
I originally bought the color video now and several disks. But after some research I did not like the fact that they only play the specialized disks. I returned everything and got my son the Teen Tech portable dvd player that is featured on the back page of the toysrus catalog. This item plays all stanard dvds, the screen is bigger than the video now, has a recharable battery in it, a carry handle. It came with a free Shrek dvd and because it was over $75 i got a free $10 gift card. The player was $109.99. My son will be getting it soon for his birthday so he can take it on the plane with him.

I got my daughter a Video Now just the other day as mentioned above and purchased online at TRU.. I got her a few disks.. But after reading all the different opinions it makes sense that this might not have been such a great idea since now Im afraid the movies might not be easily accessible over time.. Bugdozer... I like that Teentech portable dvd player and now I wonder if I purchased from TRU online can I bring it to the store when I get it and trade it in for one of these?? This looks to be a better choice I think..

I got the Teen TEch dvd player for my older daughter who is almost 11 but my younger one who is 8 wouldnt get much out of a regular dvd player. We already have a portable one they can use at any time anyway so we will stick with the Video Now and hope that they do put out more discs.

The reason I didnt get the black and white one when it came out was I knew a color one would have to be coming. I cant see anything "new" they could do now so hopefully they will just make new discs

I bought the B&W Video Now for my then 9yo son last Christmas for our yearly Christmas trip to Orlando. He lost interest in it the first couple of days! And this is a BIG video fan! The discs are short and expensive, and after they've seen them over and over they don't hold interest.

I considered the color one for a minute... nope, not going to waste my money this year.

Robinrs -

I'm with you. My DS wanted it last Christmas. The black & white version was the only one out. Santa brings each child two things, so he crossed it off his list and picked other things. His birthday is in March. He used his birthday money to buy one. Last Christmas they were $49.99, by March they were $39.99. He bought a few movies for it. He was really disappointed with the quality. The screen was really hard to see. By June, they were on clearance at Target - red one, with 3 movies and light attachment for $19.99. I bought that one to have for a birthday gift. NOW, they come out with the color version. Nobody is going to want my black & white one - new in box. So, I'll probably let younger DS play with.

I hope the newer versions have better pictures. If not you might consider getting the light attachment.

Anyway, I'm glad no one here is asking for it this year.

Now, they have a new thing - "Hear it Now". KMart has it on sale this coming Friday. I may get that for DS because he loves his music.

That Teen Tech seems like a much better choice. I have not seen one of those.

I purchased the video now player b&w last year for my daughter (age 5). It was a big waste of money!! She lost interest in it in a couple of days. This year I bought a portable DVD player......much better investment!!

Another possible option is getting a Playstation 2 with a screen and then everyone can play video games and watch DVDs in the car.

Can anyone tell me the screen size of the portable teen tech ???

TIA !

It comes with a 3 1/2" screen. The battery is lead, which is HEAVY and take a long time to recharge, something like 16hrs, so keep that it mind.

My DD is 11 and got this last year, let me ask her to tell you what she thinks of it ... her name is prittyfull_sunset on here .... when she gets home, I'll have her post :)

Video now in color is the best,i have the black and white one its kool but you have to wach the same stuff over and over again after you wach each show over 2 times it gets borring,i think a game boy would be better if they dont already have one. ::yes::

Personally I would invest extra cash and get a portable DVD player which you wouldnt have to worry about it being out of production in the next few months...

I think this is the best bet .... not much more $$ and it will last years !!!

Add to me the list for the Teen Tech. My mom bought it for my 12yo. For a few less $ walmart is having the 5 inch portable dvd player fo 97.xx

I thought about getting the video now color for my 5yo but decided againt it for all the reasons the other posters mentioned.
