We are about to embark on our sixth or so cruise. In the past we've always taken our Nintendo Wii and the kids would play on our own portable displays. Last year, the magic had inputs for these. We used those and no one ever said anything. We never knew that there was policy against it.

Fast forward to now, we have been alerted in these forums that there is a rule against this somewhere in Disney's guide.

How hard or strict is this rule? We are thinking about taking our XBox 360 which is a little more robust as far as consoles go but may reconsider if it is considered a strict policy. Just opinions sought. No flames please.

I'm looking forward to not having to take any electronics other than the ipod for music while laying out.

if i remember correctly, the Vibe has gaming consoles, but not sure about the other clubs.

No flames but they are prohibited. it is listed under the prohibited items at the DCL site. The bolding below is mine.

My question is...why take the chance of it being stolen, confiscated or even breaking the TV which would cause that cabin to be put out of service until they fix it for the next guests? Not worth it the hassel to me.

Question
What items are not permitted on board?
Answer
In order to maintain a safe and secure environment for our Guests and crew, the following are examples of items that Guests are not allowed to bring on board. These and other similar items will be confiscated upon being found.

Weapons and firearms (including ammunition, knives—including dive knives—swords, daggers or any other types of weapons) are not allowed onboard under any circumstances
Realistic replicas of firearms and weapons
Highly flammable liquids and combustible substances
Non prescribed controlled substances, illegal drugs, medically prescribed and synthetic marijuana
Power Tools and Tool boxes (except those tools of the trade utilized by vendors providing services)
Sporting equipment (i.e., baseball and cricket bats, hockey and lacrosse sticks, pool cues, ski poles, fishing gear and archery equipment.)
SCUBA equipment (i.e., tanks, spears guns /slings, dive knives, pry bar, and underwater scooter)
Kites, balloons, surfboards, wave boards, inflatable floats/pools (including pool noodles), and wagons
Bicycles, Segways, skateboards, inline & roller skates, any footwear with wheels, (i.e. Heely's type shoes)
Electrical appliances such as rice cookers, hot plates, coffee makers, electric irons, bottle sterilizer and bottle warmers, etc. Please note: A limited number of approved bottle warmers and bottle sterilizers are available upon request through Guest Services. Also all ships offer laundry facilities with irons and ironing boards. Valet laundry service is also available for a nominal fee.
Candles & Incense
DVD, VCR, or Blu ray players or, Playstation, Xbox, and Nintendo Wii gaming systems are not allowed because of compatibility issues with the stateroom TVs Musical instruments
Large Ice Coolers (Please note: small, personal-sized coolers, no larger than 12" x 12" x 12" brought onboard for the purpose of housing medications are permitted as carry-on luggage.)
Homemade, pre-cooked or other perishable food items plus any open snack containers
Metal detectors are not allowed on the ship or on Castaway Cay, as any object found using thesedevices would need to be returned to the owner or donated to charity
Personal fireworks or pyrotechnics
Seasonal and celebratory lighting strings
Liquid oxygen

The following items are permitted but with the following restrictions:

Walkie-talkies and two-way radios (e.g., Motorola, JVC). Please be aware that the amount of steel in the ship's infrastructure may cause some "dead zones" and the radios may not transmit in these areas.
A small portable fan. However, please contact Guest Services to have the Chief Electrician approve the use of your particular appliance in the stateroom.
Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices (PFDs) and flotation sewn into the bathing suit for safety. However, recreational floating devices such as floats, rafts and fun noodles cannot be brought on board and are not permitted in the pools or on Castaway Cay.
Golf clubs, as long as they are stored in your stateroom.

Here is the link to the DCL site on prohibited items. It is pretty clear that do not want the above items brought onboard.

How stringent are they on a small soft sdie cooler? if i'm at the beach, it be nice to have a few things int here.

Not to contradict MJ, as that policy is stated on DCL's website.
However, the fact it mention's VCR's (who has one of those anymore?!? :confused3:rotfl2:) but I think it is an old legacy policy from when they had the CRT TV's and not the flat screen's, and input's were not available/disabled and problem's occurred.

Many people have posted about being able to connect their PC, iPod, iPad etc to the TV and use the input's.

Ssanders79 has posted this linked photo with connections:

Now you can take at as it might/probably will work, you should call DCL direct and ask them for more up to date info, or take the risk and bring it and try to hook it up and risk it being confiscated until the end of the cruise.
I very much doubt it would be confiscated though, and it is just an outdated rule that hasn't been removed from the website.

Please don't call for assistance if it doesn't work though.

HTH's!

I have heard that people had to leave their hard side coolers in the terminals and pick them up after the cruise since they are not allowed on board. So yes, a soft side cooler are the only ones allowed to be brought on board. If you do bring one on board make sure there is no ice in it when going into the terminal at PC.
