Hi Everyone - I am looking for an easy to use and inexpensive video camera that also takes still shots for my DS10. He is pretty technologically advanced, but I'd like to keep it simple. Basically he will use this camera to post to YouTube and for "play". I am wrapping it for Christmas as a clue to our Disney Cruise.

I have looked at the flip, a GE waterproof and the Kodak Play series, but would like opinions from anyone who may know of a good deal/model.

Thanks so much and Happy Halloween!

For a 10 yr old you can get a nice camera. I have a Kodak C123. It is not a fancy camera but takes 12mp images and vga video. The up side it uses normal batteries, memory cards and is water proof. Also since it does not have a lens that expands when you turn it on he can keep it in his pocket and if he drops it it is very unlikely it will break and if it does :confused3 it costs less then $70. I used mine for Disney and when i am working in the field. I got mine in orange but it also comes in gray, and if you get it from amazon UK you can get it in yellow. They make floating hand straps because it will sink if dropped into the water (reason i got mine in orange, figure I would be able to find it easier). What ever you get make sure it uses normal batteries, standard memory cards and is water proof.

Thank you! Althogh the Kodak looks like a good camera - I really want one that is mainly for video and not stills. Any other suggestions??? Please!

Ok, i also have a DXG video camera. It takes 5mp stills but shoots 1080p video saved to SD cards. It works quite well. http://www.dxgusa.com/products/pro-gear/dxg-587vhd.html It is primarily a video camera but does descent stills also.

If interested there is a 1080p utube video shot with it... http://www.youtube.com/watwacer#p/u/3/7I2XNwvKCm4 you will need a fairly strong video card in your computer to play the 1080 video.

They have simpler cameras that will shoot 720p and 1080p and can be bought from walmart. ...they meet the original requirements i.e. readily available batteries (camcorder battery in this case, available cheap from ebay) and a standard SD card. Not water proof unfortunately.

HUH??!! :scared1: Too confusing for me! :rotfl: Thanks - I wish I was that technologically advanced.

Yes. Video only. However, using the FlipShare software, you can isolate frames from your videos and make snapshots.

Don't really want to mess with software to get snapshots - so as of now, the flip is out and I really liked this one too!
