Vibram Five Fingers

I was thinking about those for the water parks. I heard they are very comfortable. Did you ever wear them in the sand at the beach? If you did, did they fill up with sand?

I gotta say, when I first saw this topic, I thought "wow, that sounds dirty" :rotfl:

To be honest, I've never heard of these before, although our 14 year old daughter got socks with toes for Christmas.

the first time i saw them was in WDW. i saw quite a few people with them on. for me... i think they would be weird--but i have heard they're comfy.

These are quite possibly the only foot apparel on earth which are uglier than Crocs. But damn are they comfortable.

Be warned, though. If you're wearing them to Disney for the first time your feet will hurt. Five Fingers actually exercise the muscles and tendons in your feet, basically muscles and tendons with are atrophied almost from misuse. Make sure you break them (your feet) in before you go to Disney in them.

They are comfy and you will get a little sand in the ones I currently have due to the open tops, but it's not bad. I wear them when I go on our boat and kayaking.

They are very comfy once your muscles get used to them. It's like walking around barefoot, so it takes some getting used to. The good thing about buying them at REI is that you can test them out for a few months and if they don't work for you, you can return them for a full refund with your receipt.

I almost put the same comment in my original post.

Yup, mine are plenty broken in for the trails and I wear them around town, but haven't traipsed miles in them on concrete and cement yet.

Go Steelers.

Any idea how these are for someone with plantar fascitis? I love wearing flip flops at the park but they aren't very good for my feet. Wondering if something like this would work. I don't mind ugly since I wear crocs too. lol

Ditto! :lmao:

For those who wear them, do you worry about people stepping on your toes? It seems that regular sneakers/shoes protect the toes more. What about stubbing your toes?

I just got the Bikila's for running - here's my review.

I'm in shape - run 4 miles per day 5 days per week - have been doing this for years, so just to frame it...

I was told to break into them slowly - that's not my style so I just tossed the old running shoes and went to the 5 fingers.

Friction blisters on the achilies where the back of the shoe hits the tendon - these are not comfy - guessing they'll not be an issue after breaking them in.

Minor soreness on the front pads of the foot where you strike - there's no cushion, and the shoes get you to strike the front rather than the heel like you do in a traditional shoe. This was only after the first 2 days and I don't have it today at the start of week 2.

Major soreness of hamstrings the first 3 days. This is gone now, but remember I was already running 20 miles per week so hadn't anticipated it. Really sore going down stairs and getting going in the am. As pp mentions, you're actually using a whole new set of leg muscles then you use now.

They're very comfortable to wear, but feel a bit hot - I'm not sure how this will work in the summer months or for walking disney.

Give the feeling of major efficiency benefits in the stride - you feel so engaged in the step as compared to using running shoes - I think as a runner it will improve my time, and for walking it might make you less tired.

Finally, I ran a marathon in October and ever since have had a nagging soreness on the top of my right foot that I think could be a stress fracture - I feared that it might get worse in the 5 fingers because of more pounding, BUT after a week it's actually better - not nearly as sore. I also had some minor tendon issues that I thought might be Plantar back when training for the marathon last summer - that hasn't resurfaced yet, but it wasn't an issue last year until going longer distances than 4 miles.

There are other versions than the Bikila that are more for hiking and walking - I might try them for WDW, BUT if you do, try them out for a while first.

I have to say those are the most disgusting things I've ever seen.

In all honesty, I think it would get painful.. from what I've seen the padding is minimal.. there is just nothing about that that screams "comfort" to me

the rubber on the tips of the toes protects very well. I'm a klutz and always tripping over mynown feet and stubbing my toes on rocks. I haven't been hurt yet when wearing these.

Now if only the dogs wouldn't step on the tops of my feet, I'd be golden.

One of our friends wore them during our week long trip last October. She didn't have any problems the entire week and actually got quite a few questions/positive comments about them.

I have a pair I got for Christmas. I made a lot of fun of them until I tried on a pair and felt how great they made my legs and feet feel. I love them. I did have a few pains in my legs the first few times I wore them. They definitely have to be worn for short periods of time at first, but they feel great now. They really help with my knee pain. I plan on wearing them in WDW in May.

Shortly before my trip last May, I got a pair of Vibrams. Mine are blue and have the additional strap over the foot, but not the mesh. I LOVE them. I wore them to Disney for our trip. Luckily, my husband also got a pair, instead of getting Crocs. Unlike some previous posters, I think Crocs are the ugliest shoes on Earth; I think the Vibrams are actually less offensive to the eyes.

I didn't have any serious soreness on our trip. I made sure to wear them a few times before we actually left. My husband didn't wear his as much, but he didn't have any real soreness either. He never wears any pair of shoes for more than half a day.

If you don't like strangers talking to you, I wouldn't wear them in the park. My husband and I were stopped quite frequently because people wanted to know what they were and where we got them. People from all over heard about Shoez in Motion in South Carolina.

Generally, if I plan to do a lot of walking, I grab my Vibrams. I really like them. I think it is important to either get used to them first or have an alternative pair of shoes, in case you need them.

My DH got them last spring. He wore them all week last summer in WDW, including the water parks. He says that he has never worn a pair of shoes in WDW that have been so comfortable. He as no plans of wearing any other shoe.

Has anyone toured the parks in a pair of Vibram Five Fingers? I'm thinking about it this summer. I wear them everywhere during the warm months, so my feet (and calves) are used to them and they are broken in.

These are the ones that I have

I'm thinking of getting these ones as well.

Note: Yes, I'm fully aware of how I look in these:clown:

If your feet are used to them, I say go for it. Personally, my arches and shins would get tired from being on my feet without support all day. The good thing is that the ground at the parks isn't very rough so you shouldn't have to worry about stepping on rocks or anything. :tiptoe:
