Hi - I was looking through some of the information and pictures of Via Napoli and noticed that they had some individual tables around the edge and what looked like a large common table (like the Biergarten) in the middle. Is that correct? How many common tables are there? If it is a common table, do they ask if you want to be seated at it or not? :confused3

Thanks!

There is one large table toward the front of the restaurant. It seems that they use it for very large parties or for anyone who does not mind sharing a table with others. There are smaller tables throughout the rest of the restaurant.

I was just at Via August 22, and when I went up to the host stand, I just gave them my party size. We were seated at one of the perimeter tables. I didn't know that there was a difference between the communal table in the center versus the regular tables, so didn't saything. We enjoyed our table near the ovens, and I agree that the pizza and desserts were fabulous! When you go, I would ask the host how they seat the communal table in the center, and if you don't want to sit there, let them know.

I haven't been yet to Via Napoli (will be in 2 weeks!), but if they really ARE trying to stick to real "Italian standards", then sitting at the communal table really is just the luck of the draw!

On our honeymoon in Rome, we sought out the one pizza place in a back alley that apparently all Romans love to go to- and quickly realized that not only was a 45 minute wait to sit down normal, if not lucky (we came earlier than opening, made it in 15!) - they jam you in NO MATTER WHAT. They're here to sell you pizza, we were there to eat it - and we were just very, very grateful that the couple next to us at our "four-top" was polite, conversational, wore deodorant, and . . .. was American!

The above qualities (especially the deodorant part) were hard to come by in some of the other diners, but the luck of hte draw could have given us any of the others and we would be kicked out in a heartbeat (saw it happen) if we had said anything. Oh, and table service meant slapping down the menus, telling us we were NOT allowed to share a 12" thin crust pie (they say they're meant for one per person, whether or not you're skinny or full or just only want to eat half), and then taking my cash as soon as we stood up, in the middle of the tables, to pay the owner himself so we wouldn't waste his time by us walking the extra five feet to pay the cashier, because our table and time was profitable only if we left without walking that distance. . .

If I wasn't laughing so hard, I probably would be offended.
:rotfl:
