Planning ADR's for our June 2012 trip. Trying a few new places. I'm now torn between Via Napoli or Rose & Crown. I know R&C is a good spot for Illuminations but what if we do lunch? We've done mostly dinners in the past and DH is asking for some lunches this trip. We're not real foodies but want a good meal. I know we could do pizza at VN (if on DDP can a family split a pizza?) and would probably do fish & chips, shepherd's pie at R&C. Other than that, help me decide which to book. We are currently paying OOP (which may eliminate this TS altogether) but hoping for free dining so we're booking just in case (and yes, I will cancel any ADR's we decide to skip if OOP :thumbsup2)

Via Napoli is good but I think Rose and Crown better, especially for lunch.

I don't think you can share a pizza on the DDP at Via Napoli. I think each person has to order their own, but I may be wrong on that. Seems like I read that somewhere.

I enjoyed the pizza at VN; my BIL enjoyed his veal parm. We also did R&C on the trip and the service was incredibly slow there. Two hours for lunch at R&C was a bit too long for lunch! The food was average; nothing that wowed us.

I think I've read that too, now that you mention it. Suppose this would be a good option if we end up going OOP though.

A number of people have reported that if you're on the dining plan Via Napoli will not allow you to share.

Via Napoli does have very good wood fired pizza. We've also enjoyed the seafood linguini and the candele pasta. The appetizers (arancini and calamari) and desserts have also been very good. It's bright and airy inside and it's fun to watch the chefs make the pizza in front of the ovens.

The Rose & Crown has solid comfort food that is pretty basic and reliable - shepherd's pie, Sunday roast, fish and chips. Except for one time when they were trying out some new things on the menu and hadn't quite gotten the seasonings right, we've had consistently good meals.

Because we've been to R&C so many times and VN is newer, I'd choose VN, but I don't think you'll be disappointed in either.

We had an amazing lunch at Rose and Crown last spring break, beautiful spring day, we sat next to the lake. It was one of the best meals of our trip.:goodvibes Enjoy!

I do love R&C, but VN was wonderful when we ate there last year. It reminded me of some of the foods I actually ate in Italy. I think you can't go wrong with either, but I prefer VN, just for the type of food it is. Good luck!

My vote would be for via napoli. The pizza is quite good

I LOVE Via Napoli, husband and I have never had a bad meal there. They also have great salads and desserts.

Have a great trip and enjoy!!

We ate at both restaurants a year ago, and though I loved the ambiance at Rose and Crown, I would have to choose the pizza at Via Napoli. I felt it was very authentic.

We LOVE Via Napoli! That has my vote for sure. I found the menu at Rose and Crown kind of boring, but that's just my opinion. For pub style food (although it's Irish, not English) I'd pick Raglan Road!

We ate at both R&C (lunch) and Via Napoli (dinner) last month. It was our first time eating in both restaurants. This probably won't help your decision much, but we loved both!! I don't remember what DP had to eat, but i had this amazing salad as an app (it had apples, and walnuts in it) and the sunday roast as the entree (thought i'm not sure you'll want feel like eating a "heavy" meal like that in the summer time!) We were sat outside, and although it was a rainy day it was a beautiful view! Via napoli, the service was a bit slow, though we were in no sort of rush that evening. I had the caprese as an APP, and it was yummy! And the margherita pizza as an entree which was also delicious! We were on the Dlxe DP. Good luck making a decision, and fingers crossed for you that Free dining becomes available!

LOVE Via Napoli. Pizza was excellent.

Do not care for R&C at all. Our dinner on NYE was mediocre. Shepard's pie was decent, but not great. (Haven't eaten lunch there though.)

I hate to complicate your decision, but I would skip both and have lunch at Les Chefs de France instead if you want great food at a reasonable price. They also have Remy appearing occasionally. :)

Haven't been to R&C, but VN is one of our favs! Been there a few times and you can't go wrong!

Both places are pretty good, and it's really kind of apples/oranges. One thing about Via Napoli is you might need to speak in your outdoors voice because that place is LOUD! R&C isn't exactly quite and cozy, but VN has very high ceilings and hard surfaces for sound to bounce off of. If you have screaming children, take them to VN, they'll blend right in.;)
