For my upcoming trip this August, I will be taking some relatives out for dinner - they like Italian. Ive been to Il Mulino several times but would like to try someplace different. Ive heard though, that Via Napoli isn't so good. Anyone been there lately?

Via Napoli is good for pretty much only neapolitan style Pizza, we've had two of the pastas (one of which is no longer on the menu) and two of the salads, and the frito misto. I'd personally rate everything I've had other than the neapolitan style pizzas and the contadino salad as mediocre.

I'd recommend some Antipasto and wine in the Tutto Gusto Wine Bar next door followed by (just) Pizza at Via Napoli. We did exactly this a few weeks ago by accident as we got to Via Napoli 40 minutes early. We couldn't be seated when we arrived early so we went and had some Antipasto and wine at Tutto Gusto to kill some time before the reservation and now will always do it that way.

Via Napoli IMO has the best Pizza on property.

They are both excellent. It depends on what type of atmosphere you would like its much quieter at il mulino than via napoli. are you looking for a longer nicer dinner to take than il mulino..or something quick than via napoli. The food is better in il mulino than via napoli but they are both great.

Im surprised to hear you've been reading negative reviews, as via is really good. The pizza and pasta at Via Napoli are excellent. Via is one of my fave restaurants in Disney. Never had a bad meal there, and i go every single trip at least once. We tried pizza and a few pasta dishes, as well as the veal parm meal....all were excellent. My fave is the candele pasta dish and the quattro fromaggi pizza. For dessert we loved the tiramisu and zeppolle. If you want something different, i'd try via. Food is very good.

Atomsphere is beautiful and bright, but it is rather noisy/loud in there. Just a heads up. :)

I like Via Napoli for the pizza and the lively atmosphere. If you are looking for a more extensive menu, however, I would consider Trattoria al Forno on the Boardwalk. The food is very good and the Boardwalk at night is a lot of fun. Il Mulino still has the better food, but if you want something different, Trattoria is good!

I would second this. I like Via Napoli, but I do not think it compares to Il Mulino. Al Forno, however is excellent, IMO.

Via is good pizza, but its very loud and chaotic, or can be. The food at Il Mulino is so much better, as is the atmosphere and the limoncello! For themepark pizza though, Via slays!

To me you are comparing your local good Pizza place (this however is dependent on where you are from) to a good Italian restaurant..... if you want Pizza go to Via if you want something else then Il Mulino. (big note saying I work near little Italy in NY -or what is left of it- and can get a pizza for half of what Via charges that will make you dream of while eating Via)

We won't do Via again for a couple reasons. While the pizza is good, the other dishes are just ok. It's loud, chaotic and you sit very close to the next table. My biggest complaint is that the pizza kitchen is separate from the kitchen for the other food and the two comes out at different times!!! For us last time it was like 30 minutes difference. I do like the dessert there but not worth the other issues.

I love Il Mulino for great pasta and a nice atmosphere. Via Napoli was super yummy pizza, but very loud and very casual. What about Tutto Italia? It's been a few years since I was there, but I remember really loving it and it's in the parks. Il Mulino is great, but it would take a while to get there unless you're already staying at The Swan.

Edited to add - I'm not a huge fan of leaving the parks for meals unless it's at your own resort. It just takes too long!

OH these are my 2 favorite Italian restaurants in WDW however I have to admit I would lean towards VN for pizza and Il Mulino for the entrees. But as of lately I've been hearing a lot of thumbs-up about Trattoria Al Forno, that might be a nice alternative to Il Mulino. We just tried the new Bon Voyage Character Breakfast there yesterday and after having that I would actually put it on my list of restaurants to try for dinner. FYI-the breakfast menu is a fixed price menu with a little more sophisticated choices than most of the character meals but you can modify them to your liking because it's all "made to order" so that sounds enticing to me when it comes to dinner as well.

Via Napoli and Il Mulino are very different experiences. The former specializes in pizza and is loud and bustling. The latter is more subdued and is more renowned for its entrees. Both have their merits, so the choice probably depends on your preference.

One thing I will say is despite some of the recommendations on this thread, I would avoid Trattoria al Forno on the BoardWalk. In my opinion, it pales in comparison to Il Mulino in virtually every way.
