Via Napoli Cutbacks?

I noticed on allears that there was an updated March menu for Via Napoli. I looked at it out of curiosity, and I noticed that:

Two of my favorite signature pizzas are missing!

-The carciofi, which had artichoke, various cheeses, and truffle oil
-The piccante, which had spicy sausage and broccoli rabe

Also, my favorite dessert, the gelato frizzante, along with the ice cream sundae, appear to be gone.

If this is true, I'm upset. Those pizzas were among the more interesting options available IMO, and the gelato frizzante was a fun ice cream dessert.

What do you think? Personally I see less of a reason to go to Via Napoli if I would be ordering something that I can find at home (margherita pizza, zeppoli, etc).

Restaurants, especially new ones often revamp their menus based on the popularity of certain dishes. My guess is that these were not big sellers and some of the ingredients were being tossed out because they were not being used.

I wonder if maybe it has something to do with them being on the DP this year.

But the thing is, they still have artichoke and spicy Italian sausage as add-on options. The difference is, in the case of the carciofi, the same individual pizza would now cost $20 and it no longer includes the truffle oil. That pizza received some of the best reviews I've seen on here, and I simply don't believe that the truffle oil is what people didn't like about it.

If anything, I remember hearing bad things about the spaghetti torta that comes with some of the dishes, and bad comments about the apple cake, but those are still on the menu. I would think it has to do with cutting costs.

They've been on DDP since they opened, they should have planned for things they could afford to offer on DDP.

Alternatively - the AllEars menus have had some odd omissions lately - this may be more of the same. Remember it dropped several of the items from the Ohana menu? And it also now does not show the prix-fixe option at Kona but I did confirm from other posters that it is actually still there. I'd wait until I got confirmation from another source, or maybe even just call the restaurant and ask.

I would say the above is correct - one should never consider menus on allears or any other unofficial site to be completely accurate reflections of what is being offered now at any particular restaurant.

I agree with this. AllEars is an unofficial site that depends on what people send them information wise. As such, you can never count on the menus being 100% correct. Until you get confirmation from another site, I would not freak out about items missing from the menus.

They recently really messed up the Ohana menu, deleting multiple items and adding older items back onto it. We had multiple board members check on it and the "real" menu never changed.

When I first read this, I thought "cutbacks?!" The restaurant just opened!! But then I read the thread and it's just about a few menu items not being offered anymore. I agree with the posters about trying out things. I'm sorry OP but your two favorite pizzas would not even be considered by my family at all. So why think it's because of "cutbacks"? Why not think it's because the masses have spoken and those two aren't as popular as others?

And to those who scoff at pepperoni and cheese? Order a pizza bake at your place of work and see which pizza goes first. In my experience of 20 years, it's the pepperoni one. I order twice as much of that one and it still is the first to go.

As I stated above, it's because similar ingredients are still available as add-ons, but now a pizza with said toppings would cost way more (and the fact that those pizzas have received good feedback on here). Also, the fact that truffle oil (a very tasty ingredient that is uncommon at 1-credit restaurants because it's expensive) was removed.

Reducing menu variety and cutting expensive ingredients definitely are cutbacks to me. It doesn't surprise me that cheese and pepperoni would be more popular to the masses, but as a customer paying OOP I see less of a reason to stop at Epcot's obscenely priced pizza establishment if I can't get something with more unique toppings...

Hopefully Allears is wrong.

Also - there are plenty of threads about items being removed. See the Le Cellier uproar over cream cheese mashed potatoes, for example. Or the Jiko disappointment when certain desserts were changed, or the mac' n cheese with the filet was replaced by another side. At least in those cases, the items being removed were replaced by something else. Here, it just seems to be a loss (if it's true).

I am originally from Chicago and sausage is the ONLY choice. Here in Italy, pepperoni is not an option...............
