VGF v. Poly STUDIOS

Was just looking at points charts and for Easter week (planning way, way ahead), it looks like the same # of points for a week in a standard studio at each resort, and about the same (+/- 2 points altogether) for lakeview studios. (I had heard lots of discussion about how VGF was the costliest in points among all the DVC resorts, but it seems like Poly is at least tied.)

We have stayed in a VGF studio, but not Poly. What are people's thoughts on which studio you'd prefer, and why?

We have stayed at both and enjoyed both. I personally prefer the theming at VGF but the extra shower and convenience to TTC were very nice at Poly. Can't really go wrong either way. Since you haven't tried Poly I'd suggest giving it a try.

I prefer the Poly studios, larger with a sink in the second bathroom and I love the interior design. Can't go wrong with either, and the luckily they're close enough to enjoy the amenities at both!

We have stayed in studios at both and fell in love with Poly (added on there). The thing is, we are mid-century modern type people so, of course, we fell in love with the Poly. We have also stayed in a 2 bedroom at VGF. WOW! Just WOW! If you get the opportunity, it is lovely- as are the CMs.

We have stayed at both too and like both but we like VGF the most.

The theming at VGF is just so much more to our liking. We have only stayed in studios so far.

It all boils down to if you like the theming and the layout of your preferred units.

I think you should try it out and see if it’s to your liking or not.

You could do a split stay next time, could be another excuse to extend your upcoming stay for a few days

We had a lake view studio at the Poly and watching the fireworks from our balcony was very special. However, I do not like the resort enough to book it again. We try to stay in a VGF studio every 2-3 years at Christmas time because of the decor.

I like the fact that each has a shower stall, that’s my preference.

Now, I did visit a friend who was staying in a Poly bungalow, and I myself stayed in a CC cabin. Those units are amazing!!

Also love both, but preferred the convenience to TTC. Stayed at Poly twice, both times in Tokeleau, and just loved the easy walking to TTC and the extra bath was fabulous!

VGF is the one resort I have been unable to book at 7 months out (home is SSR). We did stay at Poly and are staying there again in March; love the atmosphere and the bathroom set up.

The Poly really has two rooms with different entrance doors, while in VGF, the bath and shower area have the central sink area.
As far as convenience to TTC, even I, who have had problems walking, did walk to it without strain from Poly.
We have a good amount of points, and in the end, I can get a studio for less than paying for one at the Poly for most of the time, but paying to stay at the VGF in December is worth it to me. We do own at BLT and often Book standard studios or 1 bedrooms, and the TTC is only 1 monorail stop away.

To me the bathrooms were about the same between the Poly and VGF. The Poly does have an extra sink in the portion with the bathtub and the toilet, and this portion is a little bigger. I prefer VGF over Poly because of the resort amenities, but we had a great time at Poly, and we liked the easy access to TTC.

We own at VGF. I prefer the VGF studios. They're a little brighter. It's more of the color scheme, it's darker than VGF. The Poly studios are very similar and very nice, but most of the extra room is actually in the bathroom. It's just wasted space in my opinion. Both bathrooms are already pretty large at VGF, so the bathrooms are just massive at the Poly. We also prefer the standard views at VGF (monorail & GF) versus the wildcard at Poly (garden, pool or parking lot). We've been to Hawaii 5 times, including twice at Aulani, so the theme just isn't as appealing to us I suppose. Both studios/resorts are great though, and we won't hesitate to stay at the Poly again just because it's different.

If you haven't stayed at the Poly and you can (since as you said, it's a similar point structure as VGF), then I would recommend you try it!

My real feeling about the Poly bathroom situation is that they cheaped out. They could have used some space from the bath tub bathroom and added a toilet in the shower room.
(As an aside, the bulk of our points are at AKV and we only infrequently splurge at VGF.)

We stayed at Poly for the first time this past spring and really enjoyed it. Loved having the two separate showers. There's only two of us, but it was nice that we could both be getting ready at the same time and then be ready to go at the same time. The room itself was pretty spacious. I didn't feel like we were stumbling over each other the whole time.

We were in the Moorea building, at the far end, and I LOVED being so close to the TTC. We could just hop over and either get on the boat to MK, or the monorail to EP. I also loved watching the fireworks from the beach. Others have had issues with the boat horns, but we didn't hardly notice them.

I would also recommend exploring the option of doing a split stay (VGF last). That way, if you are not crazy about the Poly, you would have the VGF to look forward to!

They wanted to add toilets but there was a code issue. Only so many toilets per unit or building, or something along those lines.

Yes. The HA studio layout at VGF is a single large bathroom. At PVB it's still divided into 2 as I recall since the section with tub/shower and toilet is already large enough to accommodate a wheelchair.

Isn't it sliding doors at PVB too? That's what I recall it being. But yes, PVB has a sink in both bathroom sections. VGF it's just in one of the two.
