VGC Waitlist for October - chances?

Hi all. Our kids have their fall break during the week of Oct 8th this year, and while we usually drive to WDW for that week, we're wanting to try Disneyland this year (never been). I tried online booking for VGC, but was only able to waitlist the week.

So, what are the chances of that coming through? If we do DL instead of WDW, we have to fly, which means there's no money left in the budget for alternate lodging - it has to be DVC points. So it's VGC or nothing. I'm not going to bother booking air fare until/unless the waitlist comes through.

Our family would be perfectly happy to return to WDW again in October, but at what point does it become too late to book the same week there? Should I just book something at WDW for that week just to make sure I have something, and then cancel that if the waitlist comes through? Or will the WDW ressie cancel automatically?

Sorry for so many questions - it's my first time trying to do a waitlist, and I'm just finding a few of the logistics a bit confusing.

We're booked into VGC the week before you are looking to come. If I remember correctly, the week you're coming coincides with both a holiday (Columbus Day? - forgive me, I'm Canadian and don't remember) and Gay Days, so accommodations might be hard to come by. Not sure I'm 100% correct on this though, but it should be easy enough to confirm.

Thanks! I don't know anything about gay days, but you are correct about Columbus Day being that Monday. Our school's fall break always happens that week.

Thanks for the heads up on the gay days though. That wouldn't cause us to want to change plans - but if it makes accommodations impossible, then we'll just have to try our luck another year.

Here's a recent thread asking about October crowds. It looks like Hawaii and Arizona have break that week with Utah following afterwards. Add in gay days, Columbus day, and the start of Halloween season it may be a long shot to get that week. Good luck deciding.

Thanks for the extra link. I'll check that out. Doesn't sound like my chances are all that great. :sad1:

I tried booking something in Orlando for that week, just as back-up, because we certainly don't mind a trip to WDW again. But we were also hoping to hit a resort that we haven't visited yet, and the only two left are the EPCOT resorts, which are also not completely available when we need them (due to F/W festival, I'm sure). The plan for the next trip back to Orlando is to actually do some non-Disney stuff :rolleyes1, so we ruled out the MK resorts.

Oh well - we've got a little bit of time to wait and see, I guess.
