VGC Overbooked Next Week (10/8)

Just got a phone call from Members Services that GCAL does have enough Villa rooms available for everyone booked next Friday 10/8 so they are having to call "many" members offering them a stay in the hotel side or cancellation without penalty. What the? I have Friday and Saturday booked at GCAL so having to switch rooms is not convenient. I told them they need to find a way to at least get me in the same room two nights in a row. She said she'd check and call me back. I seem to recall something similar happening at Copper Creek recently.

Yes, it did happen. However, did they mention if it just go overbooked? Or there is an issue and rooms have to be taken out of service which is why they don’t have enough?

They didn’t exactly say…just that the Grand had called them and said they needed to take back several of the Villas. Not exactly sure how this works between DVC and the actual resort.

It may mean that they had an issue and were fully booked. I always thought that because DVD retains ownership of around 2%, that they always left rooms vacant, but it doesn’t work that way.

I hope they can move you for both nights!

With so few rooms, I doubt there's any reserve for VGC and they simply rely on GC rooms as it's literally attached. Very little difference with the studios

I agree with this, when I was there for a two night DVC room studio trip a few weekends ago I asked the front desk about the DVC side room occupancy and spare capacity, and she said its pretty much 100% all the time. So I would image if there's even a single room issue, the move over to the cash side will happen.
