VGC - day late for 11 month window??

Hi all

I've been planning my California/Hawaii trip for almost 2 years, but I've unbelievably missed the 11 month booking window for VGC by one day! I should have completed my request to Daddio to rent a vacation yesterday!

We are hoping for a studio for late August - do you reckon I'm ok with it being a day past opening day?

Will be gutted if I have missed it - decided I wanted to stay there so much that I wasn't going to risk waiting for my own 7 mth window, and now I've missed 11 mths anyway!

Since it's the 11 month window, you should be fine, even if you're a little late. Obviously, the sooner you get something confirmed, the better you'll feel. Good luck!

FWIW, I think a bigger worry than availability would be if Daddio has owners with VGC points right now. If he does, I predict success soon.

As you correctly predicted Carol, there was availability at the 11 month window, but unfortunately they currently don't have a VGC member wanting to rent points.

I'm now in a quandary and would appreciate your thoughts - we REALLY want to stay at The Grand Californian and can't decide whether to keep on David's Vacation Club wait list to see if something comes up, or to pay out for hotel reservations (which will undoubtedly be a lot more expensive).

What would you do?

I'd go on David's waitlist, keep an eye on the DIS DVC R/T Board and check out other rental brokers, including TSS.

Be sure to cancel the waitlist for Daddio if something else works out.

FWIW, there's at least one VGC rental thread currently active on the R/T Board. The offer says they want to make reservations inside of 5/15/2015, which won't work for you, but maybe they have future points they'd be willing to rent. I have noticed that offers to rent VGC points do get posted every now and then on the R/T Board, so it's worth keeping an eye on it.

IMO, VGC availability for late August (especially weeknights) will remain pretty good until the 7 month window opens - so don't panic too soon. Use the DVC Resort Availability Tool to gauge how quickly dates around what you want are selling out. Good luck!



P.S. If you are serious about staying on cash if you can't get in on points, and don't mind committing a deposit for awhile, you could go ahead and make the cash reservation. Take note of the cancellation deadline and then keep trying to get in on points until the cancellation deadline. That strategy might relieve your anxiety a bit.

Thanks ever so much for your reply Carol . I've written back to Daddio now and asked to remain on the wait list, hopefully as you say, availability for late August will remain good for at least a little while. Having checked the hotel room prices, I think I'll also try to save a few extra pennies in case I need that as a back up plan!
