Very worried about my kitten

Morning all.

I was hoping I could get some advice from some who know a thing or 2 about cats. We just got our cat on Friday from an animal shelter. She's 6 months old. We fell in love with right away.

Anyways, last night, she was sneezing an awful lot. Still doing it this morning. Not just a sneeze hear and there. It's about 2 or 3 a minute.

Any idea what it could be? I'm gonna make an appointment to bring her to the Vet on Thursday, but I'm wondering if I should make it for sooner and if it could be something bad.

Sounds like a cold/upper respiratory infection. The same thing happened when we got our last cat from the shelter, she got sick within a couple days. It's common to spread through cats at a shelter. If she starts coughing or stops eating, I would get her there earlier.

Yeah, shelter pets can carry such things.

Or is it after she uses the litterbox? Maybe she's stirring up dust. Or after drinking, maybe she's sticking her nose to the water, one of my kitties do that.

I'm gonna make an appointment this morning and get her there as soon as I can. She seems fine, but being that she's so young, I'm, very worried about her getting sick.

One of the cats we adopted from a shelter had a virus too. Easily treatable but always better to have the Vet take a look.

Let us know how you make out.

Get her to the vet asap. While it could be dust or an URI, it could also be distemper.

It's probably an upper respiratory infection. When we adopted our kitten from a shelter a few years ago, she had one, too. They're usually easily treated with antibiotics.

That's very common! We didn't have to put our kittens on antibiotics for it (we were watching for it to get worse and would have if it reached that point and the vet told us what to watch for), but the vet had us give them 1/4 of a 500MG L-lysine tablet every 12 hours. It cleared them up without any problem. Call your vet and ask about it.

Congratulations on your new cat. I bet she will be fine after her visit to the Vet. Have fun with her. I bet she is so happy to have a new home.

I signed her up for medical insurance today. I know - Goofy, but this way, I won't have to worry about her. Not bad - Only $27 a month, and it covers 100% on meds, xrays, blood work, etc. Of course, there's a $50 deductible. That's OK - She's worth it.

Congrats on your new kitty! :cat: Hope she's feeling better soon.

She was in fine spirits last night. She was still sneezing (or that's what it seems like.) She ate all her food and drank plenty of milk and water. I bought her some treats that help with furballs. She ate a couple of those with no problem. I'm still worried though. I made an appointment for tomorrow morning for her, so hopefully they'll find out how to make her feel better.

Just an FYI, it is generally not recommended to give cows milk to cats on a regular basis as it can cause gastro-intestinal upset. Good idea to ask your vet what he/she recommends.

I agree that it sounds like an URi, glad to hear you are taking her in right away. Always good to have a 'new' animal checked out anyways.

Good luck with your new family member!

Sounds like you are a great kitty dad.

FYI, unless that is the Whiska's kitty milk or milk like it, formulated specifically for cats, please don't give her any more. Cats' digestive systems really can't handle cow's milk very well...I know it's something you see on tv and movies a lot, but it is bad for them. You may soon have a visit from the Diarrhea Monster.

Keep us posted on your lil sweetie!

:rotfl: ::yes:: ::yes::

I hope your kitty's visit to the vet turns out okay. Like others have said, it's probably just a URI. Some of my cats have experienced this as well.

Let us know how it goes. :wizard:
