Last Thursday night, we were driving home from D.C., and booked a night at a hotel on Priceline from the road. I paid via Google Wallet - got a confirm, and my Discover card was charged. I gave my debit card for the incidentals. Looking at my account today, and they charged my debit card for the cost of the room as well. I am awaiting a call back from the manager in the a.m. - or else I will put a claim in with my bank.

What REALLY annoyed me is that, with tax, I paid $107 on Priceline - and the hotel charged me $85 for the same room. Obviously, I want the money put back on my debit card - but do you think I can fight for the extra $22? Would the Priceline guarantee still be valid?

Are you sure that the $85 is not a hold on your debit card for incidentals? I've seen those "hold" charges from hotels when I log on to my account online right after my stay. Those charges will to go away after a couple days and never show up on my actual statement. I think you have nothing to worry about but definitely keep your eye on it.

I agree. If it is listed as a pending charge it is most likely a hold for incidentals that will be released. In my experience when they take your card for incidentals, some go ahead and do a pending charge for a set amount and some do not.

If it turns out that It was a double charge for the room then you will certainly be refunded the $85 by the hotel. I don't know about getting a refund for the Priceline guarantee. It seems that you've missed that window of opportunity.

If you find a lower published-price for the exact same itinerary, within 24 hours of booking, Priceline will:
Refund you 100% of the difference, or cancel your reservation so you can rebook at the lower price
Plus, we will give you a $50 Priceline Vacation Package Coupon for your next trip*

Rule number one when using Priceline is to first find out what the hotel's rate is.

Even if your room is paid in full, hotels still put a hold on your debit card for incidentals so that is probably what that charge is. It doesn't always equal the room price, so Priceline may not have over charged you.

Its always good to check though.

No, it was a hard charge. (I work for the bank, have for 18 years:) ) The hotel confirmed it was for the room rate, and it will be credited back. I am going to try fighting for it later...can't hurt, I guess.

Anymore before I choose PL I call the hotel for my AARP, AAA rate which often is the same. Also, PL one room ressie will not guarantee two beds if it is one room. I could end up with a King like at Penn State area on an overnighter.

Yes Granny the hotel screwed up. The OP is mad at Priceline because when she booked the hotel with Priceline she paid $107 but if she would have just booked with the hotel directly it would have cost her $85 for the night. So she is mad because she paid more by using Priceline.

I had a similar experience - down to the rate difference - with Orbitz and a Ramada a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, the hotel itself was less than helpful, and I'm waiting on a paper check from the corporate office.

:furious: I get so mad because
you think you will get a great deal BUT mostly you get racked over the coals!!!!!

Eh, I've consistently gotten 3 star hotels for $23-25 and they are not in any way available for that elsewhere.

It is a gamble.

Op I hope you can get it all dealt with, satisfactorily:) it would be nice to do that.

I am booking for our upcoming vacation and I am finding more and more places are much cheaper to just book with them directly. The travel sites have been much higher. Not a little higher, a great deal higher.
