Very Upset - Charged for CRT, while on Dining Plan

Hi, DIS Friends-

I am so upset!

We are traveling to WDW in July on the MYW Premium Plan. I made ADRs for both the HDD and CRT for breakfast, and of course, I had to give a cc guarantee for both - no problem. I was assured by the CM that my card wouldn't be charged and that it was only to be used as a guarantee, even though we are on the Premium Plan.

I got my cc statement on Saturday and I was charged $152.83 for CRT. So I called Disney Dining and stated that I believed a mistake had been made and thought that it would be as simple as having them refund the charge. Not a big deal. I was, of course, extremely nice as I understand that anyone can make mistakes.

Well, apparently it is a big deal. :furious:

After talking to a supervisor, the CM who I spoke with stated that they had "checked three different places" and were certain that my cc hadn't been charged. I told them, "Well, I'm sitting here looking at my statement, so I can assure you that it has been charged."

They continued to insist that there was no way that I could have possibly been charged and that I needed to take this up with my cc company. That's simply ridiculous. Of course, my cc company states that I WAS charged.

Regardless of how much we've spent on our package and accommodations, it's simply the principle of the matter.

So what would you do?

Thanks,
Sheila

I would dispute the charges with the credit card company and fast, since you only have about 30 days from the date of the statement. Most credit cards will deal fairly with you and get the money back to you or the charge removed pretty quickly.

I had a $565 dollar charge for WDW tickets that I never got. The CC company fought for me and got it back. Good luck.

That's the great thing about having a credit card from a great bank: Mistakes are ever a big deal. You just dispute the charge and let the vendor come back with proof that the charge was valid.

I was about to say the exact same thing as Jan

This is exactly why My DF and I are not eating at CRT. With their new policy of using a credit card for reservations it just provides too much opportunity for a screw up.

Wow! Thanks for the fast responses, Guys!

Yes, US Bank, said that I could dispute it.

But that's a great idea about sending faxing the statement over!

Thank you so much for all the great responses...

Yes, it definitely makes you think twice about giving out credit card numbers...

Thanks! :)

How about faxing a copy of your statement to the supervisor? :smokin:

Wow, you have more faith in them than I do. Even sending them a statement will all but that charge gone, provides them with more information than I would want all Cast Members that might come in contact with my fax to know.

Call Disney back and talk to someone else!! The same thing happened to me when I booked HDDR for October. called them back and ended up calling 3 times before I found someone that would credit my card back and re-book it without giving me a hassle!

Good luck!

I wonder how much they make in charges that people do not even notice! That is part of why I will not make reservations at any Disney restaurant that charges for this privilege. Just do not think it is worth this kind of hassle.

I am always charged on my CC when I book CRT. I was told that if I am on the dining plan then I would receive a credit at check in. If I'm not on the dining plan then I won't. We've eaten at CRT 4 times in the last 2 years and this is how it's always been for us. Were they supposed to change it?

Yes, they aren't supposed to charge your card if you currently have reservations that include a Dining Plan.

Okay, I called WDW-DINE again and spoke to a very helpful CM, who put me on conference call with a supervisor.

For some reason, they can't see that my card was charged. So I faxed them my statement - making sure that all sensitive information was blocked out.

I'm waiting to hear back now.

I totally agree with the comments about opportunity for mistakes with these credit card guarantees. When I made our ressies, the CM who I spoke to asked how I wanted to pay for it and I said, "Well, don't I receive the reservation confirmation in the mail? I was planning to send a check then." She really thought that I should put it on my AmEx card over the phone. Now, I know that WDW is legitimate (obviously), but I am not going to give my charge card out over the phone for that large of a bill. My DH would have had a stroke if they had double-billed us or something - and I can understand why.

Thanks for all of the input! It really helped!

When I reserved CRT last summer for our October stay, I was NOT charged for the ressie because we were on the dining plan. Same thing with Fantasmic/Mama Melrose. princess:

Yes, that was BEFORE the February 1 changes. Now everyone is charged in full when they make the reservation except the dining plan folks are not supposed to be charged but mistakes have occured since this is all new. It's supposed to be a CC hold so that you either show up or cancel or you WILL be charged.

Before February 1, everyone was charged the $10/$5. deposit except those on the dining plan...again just a CC hold.

Please let us know if they credit your account!

We made our CRT ADR's several months prior to our vacation and guaranteed the reservation with a credit card but told them we would be using dining plan credits. Our credit card was not charged.

We were charged when we reserved in February for our August meal. We thought it was supose to be a guarentee hold as well, since we are on the dining plan, not a full charge, but the charge for the meal is definately there. It isn't a big deal to us, since we had been debating paying out of pocket for the meal anyways (since it is not enough to make it worthwhile to use 2TS credits for). Since the money was charged, we just made another reservation for a different night that was free at a 2 TS restaraunt and and paying OOP for CRT. Unfortunately our situation doesn't help the poster at all since they are on the Premium dining plan with is different then the regular one.

Hi, Guys!

Okay, Disney Dining called me back and stated that they have issued a refund. :)

I will go ahead and contact my cc company tomorrow to confirm that, but I just wanted to give credit where credit was due. I worked with a specific CM today who followed through on the issue until it was resolved and really impressed me with her wonderful level of customer service. (Unlike those who I contacted yesterday)

So I think that my issue is resolved, but I'm sorry that it happened in the first place.

Thank you so much, Everyone, for your insight and advice...

The DIS is really something special! :cloud9:

Thanks for the update. I'm glad the CM was able to resolve it. When I read your OP I was like, aw jeez because we're on the Premium plan in September and plan to do CRT and HDDR. I don't know if we will get a seating for HDDR at 180 days out but I want to book HDDR with all the other ressies. I'm paranoid about being charged upfront. DH will have a fit if they charge us so I've been avoiding the situation. Your situation gives me hope. :goodvibes

Yes, I knew my DH would have a fit also because he has a phobia about giving out cc numbers over the phone - and here I did and look what happened. I will say that I've never had a problem before with a cc number over the phone, though.

The good news is that we also made ADRs for HDDR and I did not get charged for that.

Have a great time! :)
