Coming home from the mall with wife and twins when a deer ran out in front of us. Everybody is ok. The deer, unfortunately, was not. The worst part was how the kids reacted when they figured out what had happened. Fortunately my wife was able to drive them around the block while the police officer did the "dirty work"..... We were able to convince the kids that the deer was fine and ran off into the woods.

Everybody stay alert, and stay safe.

That's awful! We have a ton of deer running out and getting hit here. I used to work in the next county over and was coming off of the mountain one day and there was only half of a deer in the road. I don't think I have ever seen anything so horrible in my life.

I'm glad that your family is all okay. It can be really dangerous to run into an animal.

You called the police? I have hit a ton of deer and never called the police....I just call my insurance co. and they send an adjustor out to take pics.

I hope the hunters keep all of the deer thinned out around here.

Yikes! Glad to hear the humans are okay. Poor deer, I'm sure s/he suffered. How's the vehicle?

We live off the road in the woods and frequently I have to wait for the deer to get off our driveway before I can leave in the am. They're practically tame here.

I hit a deer a few years ago but somehow it got up and ran into the woods. I saw one deer by the side of the road and didn't see the one running across the road. It is a scary experience but fortunately no one was hurt and my car had very little damage.

I'm so sorry about the deer but I'm glad you and yours were okay.

I have a thread out there titled "New things I learned in MI" and one of them was about the deer running out in front of your car. DH has on more than one occasion come very close to hitting one. It scares me to think about it. I'm always scanning the side of the roads for one, not to say that would help much. They come outta no where!

Anyways you're all safe and the kids are none the wiser, thank goodness.

Sure. I didn't want the deer to keep suffereing.

Same thing happened to me 2 years ago. The deer jumped from out of no-where. I had no time to swear. It wasn't 'gone' yet and I also called the police. They were they in a matter of minutes and did what they had to do so the poor thing didn't suffer.

I was with my dad in my car when this happened. We were both OK, but I was the talk of the family for that 'season'. Everyone knew I bagged my first buck.

Glad you and your family are okay. It is a reminder to be extra careful this time of year.

I am just thankful you and your family are okay. Deer can do quite a bit of damage to cars. I'm sorry for the deer too, but more relieved that you and your family members were not injured.

Oh, I am so sorry :( That is such a dangerous occurance, and it happens too often... the poor children, I hope they are okay...

Glad you aren't hurt. Deer can do some serious damage. A few years ago my mother hit one with a Volvo (it was a tank!, it probably could have went through brick walls) and the car was scrap metal.

A few years ago, my son's soccer coach was killed when he hit a deer, and it flew into the windshield. He was in the Smokey Mountains attending a family wedding.

I'm glad that you and your car are OK. Apparently, hitting deer is becoming a bigger problem as the suburbs extend into fomerly rural areas.

I'm glad you all are OK. I hope your girls aren't too traumatized. My son saw a cat today as we were pulling out of the driveway and made sure to tell me so that I wouldn't run it over. He was very concerned about it too and the cat was on the sidewalk. :rotfl:

Anyhoo, we have lots of deer in our area and I'm curious as to what I should do if I do hit one. I see you called the police to put it out of its misery? Did you dial 911? What if it was dead? Would you have just left it?

I hit one a few years ago on the turnpike, doing 65 mph. There was a rest area just ahead, so we stopped and a trooper went back to look for the deer, but couldn't find it. He filled out a report, which our insurance didn't even need, because you could see deer hairs where it hit in the front. I felt very lucky we we all OK.

:grouphug: Gald you are all ok and no one was hurt.

My dad has hit two deer both less than a mile away from our house. Many nights when I come home late and turn into my street there are deer just standing in the middle of the street it is very scary (I'm always afraid they will get spooked by my car).

Yes,Yes, and No. I know the insurance would have taken care of it, in all probablility, but this makes sure of it.

Thanks for the well wishes all. BTW, car has fairly minimal damage considering we hiy it dead on. I had slammed on the breaks and probably just hit it at about 15 MPH, as we were only going about 35 MPH before that.
