VERY RUDE owner

I was kinda thinking the same thing besides I may have responded the same way given that kind of comment

And really..who felt the need to alert that guy anyway?

Whats amazing someone knew who the guy was.

I probably would have sent a nasty reply after receiving one also.

Just so everyone is clear (very clear), I DID NOT make the response up, it is 100% genuine.

Do any of you see any abusive language or remarks in my response? Yet some of you still believe that I am the one who is rude when all I was doing was suggesting someone take an already excellent deal they had received.

Sorry but I'm having a hard time believing someone from Colorado replied to you using those terms. Now if the OP's location said Jolly 'Ol England, tea and scones, Big Ben and all, then I might give you the benefit of the doubt. Plus that reply just seems to contrived, if it had said screw you *****, you're toast after I post this all over the internet it might have been a little more believable, good try though :)

I am sorry but I have to respond to this .Being from Jolly 'Ol England myself I feel this is a bit uncalled for .

I own a home in W.Hills.
I also received the original enquiry where the enquirer gave his name, phone and email - a travel agency.
His query claimed he had at that stage got a certain price. It appeared that this low quote was from W.Hills.
And it was certainly far lower than anyone in W.Hills would give.

It turns out his "lowest quote so far" was for another sub-division,Emerald Isle, which though a very nice place -I spent two weeks there on a recent vacation - does not have the facilities, enormous pool and other advantages that Windsor Hills has.

One owner found his quote so low that they replied in a rather irate manner. Not rude. not insulting. But, yes, displaying some annoyance.

The response from that travel agent was amazing.
I've been a travel agent for 30 years and I would expect dispinlinary action against my trade body here in ireland if I had written such an insulting, almost threatening message, especially on his company's e-mail address.

i tried to contact that person by phone a couple of times -day-time USA -but there was only an answering machine. I am forwarding his mail to his head office and to ASTA, and asking for their comments.
My name is Nick Durham Gold Travel Dublin 10 and think it shocking that a member of my profession would speak like that to anyone.
And ,even worse, send messages attacking the person he's just insulted.

Incidentally, I don't know the person above who replied to the rude agent.

Herein lies the problem with email. It is so easy to be misunderstood. I would like to think that on there was a misunderstanding regarding the first and second email. It looks like the original inquiry failed to make it clear that the original quote was from EI and the response to that inquiry is being read with harsh undertones. I too read it that way, but am willing to accept that it was not meant to be that way. I hope this incident doesn't deter others from trying villa rentals or scare them away from making inquiries.

Guys this could not have been TravelinGal's response. I know her from another board and she has never used the words bloody or bugger.

Uh Jannyans, I wasn't implying British people are rude, I meant the terms that were used below (and highlighted in bold) sound more british slang than American which I thought I had indicated when I said "if it had said screw you *****, you're toast after I post this all over the internet it might have been a little more believable"

In reference to the terms mentioned above (which I consider more British not American slang):

Bugger off you rude pig.

Off to post on a HUGE international board how bloody rude you are!

Hopefully also backed up by Tissa's statement

So hopefully that clears things up that either I didn't explain well or you misread. I'm not out bashing the Brits :)

I knew what you meant. I don't see anything "uncalled for" in pointing out that an American poster is unlikely to use British slang.

I don't know her at all...but just because she never used the words on another form doesn't mean she didn't use them in her response to the owner.

It is very clear from Tony's website that he lives in the UK. Since most of us know the words "bugger" and "bloody" are common in British conversation (ever seen a Hugh Grant movie...he says bugger and bloody every ten seconds) it is not a leap that in choosing to respond to someone from the UK that the resondent chose to use words and phraseology common in the UK, to get her point across.

Please, I think calling someone cheap and wishing that they lose thier rental b/c they dare to shop around is a little more than "suggesting" they take the deal that they got.

(irishgreek) One owner found his quote so low that they replied in a rather irate manner. Not rude. not insulting. But, yes, displaying some annoyance.

Replying to someone in an "irate" manner is rude, especially when the owner who had nothing to offer them could have just ignored it and went about his day. Most people being told that they are cheap and hoping they lose thier rental would think that it is very rude and insulting.

As someone who has plans of someday planning a big family vacation utilizing a private pool home, neither of you are painting Windsor Hills in a very good light. That is if "both" of you are actually owners.

Hmmm

popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn::

Just FWIW, I think the owner shouldn't have ever written
why don't you accept the already excellent offer that some owner is desperate enough to give you? That's the problem with enquiries like yours, no matter how low an owner goes you are never happy and still want to pay less. I hope that whoever has offered you this deal sees your enquiry and withdraws it.
It strikes me as somewhat rude as well. A simple "sorry, we can't match that offer, here's the best we can do," would suffice.

But I also think the travel agent is way out of line by not disclosing in their original inquiry that they were
1) acting as agent, and not a principal
2) then publicly posting private e-mail communications between themselves as a licensed agent and the owner, be it rude or otherwise.
Bugger off you rude pig. Off to post on a HUGE international board how bloody rude you are!
is really unprofessional. They can put it in their "book" and steer clients away from the particular property, but posting it publically is simply unprofessional. If I were an owner, I would have reservations about doing business with any such an agent.

Bottom line, after reading this thread, I'd be hesitant to do business with either party.

I find this response extremely RUDE! I would probably respond with anger also!

Edited to say: I KNOW I would respond with anger!

OK -

First - I will never change my opinion that the response to the request was VERY rude. The owner has shown his/her true colors.

Second - Irishgeek - I am a home based agent and, as such, am not affiliated with ASTA as it is far to expensive for the single owner/agent to pay for membership with them. Guess I need to take disciplinary action on myself.
Regarding "And it was certainly far lower than anyone in W.Hills would give" - I actually received quotes from WH owners who were matching or slightly beating that price for the same size home.
And, by my user name here, you should be able to tell I'm a girl by now. <sigh> I know Robin is a masculine name over there, but that's not the case in the US.

Third - Thanks for the defense folks, but I did write what the owner said I wrote. (Thanks Tissa - LYMI!) I did not know when I responded if the owner was from China, UK, USA or Russia for that matter. Those are just the words that popped into my head when I was feeling hurt and angry. My apologies if 'bugger off' means anything more than 'take a flying leap off a tall bridge'. Same applies to 'bloody' if it means anything stronger than 'damn'. After sending the e-mail response to him/her, I did go back to the Windsor Hills website and followed a few links to find a home that had the same e-mail address. That is when I found they were in the UK.

Fourth - in this particular instance, I am my client. But I will store this event for eternity and never consider his/her home for any client of mine, no matter HOW nice it is or how cheap they let it go for. On the other hand, I did interact with some very nice owners from WH and I will store them in my database for future clients.

I did respond too sharply to the original e-mail and, for that I apologize. Both to all WH homeowners, who I realize are NOT rude and should not take the brunt of my anger over one person, and to the homeowner this thread was about in the first place. I still encourage everyone interested in renting a home to do so! It's a wonderful experience.

Robin

Thank you for your honesty regarding your e-mail to me confirming that I had been telling the truth about your response to me and for your apology. I also apologise if I offended you and if you felt that I was rude, it was not my intention.

Let's put it behind us and move on.

Hi Folks,

Personally, I believe that the WH owner response was justifed. I dont think it was particularly insulting and I think the enquirer was being way too sensitive with the reply.

I too get fed up of enquirers playing one owner off another and trying to "low ball" with prices with "exaggerated" rental quotes.

I personally want to avoid bidding wars as I feel that the enquirer is just trying to get something for relatively nothing.

How as home owners do we know that a Travel Agent won't place a larger comission on top of the genuine cost, so that they themselves make more money on the rental.

Ok folks...

Just a reminder, there are rules for posting here, everyone has to play nice.
You can read those rules up under the FAQ portion of your header.

If you see a post that is questionable, please send me a pm, or use the "Report this post to a Moderator" button on the lower left of your display screen.:thumbsup2

Homeowners are always welcome to participate here, but no direct links to your homes, no "I sent you a pm" type responses.
You can provide links to your home's community, or general rental sites.

OP and the homeowner have resolved this - let's move on.

Have a Disney kind of Day, all!
:sunny:

I couldn't agree more with this post. It ain't rocket science who was being insulting and who wasn't. But as Tonyjameswright as said time to move on.

I have nothing but respect for those homeowners who work tirelessly to gain rentals and sensible prices for their beautiful homes.
