Very Emotional day for DS!

We are getting DSL finally! My DS 15 is so excited I swear he had tears in his eyes when it was approved. We have not been able to get it until now. The phone company finally brought it to our neighborhood. It has been available to friends close so it has been driving him crazy. He was e-mailing the phone company weekly to ask for it, maybe they got tired of him and thats why it is here now! He plays online games and dial-up is too slow. Since the computers are networked I could never get on line while he was playing games as it slowed his down too much so I couldn't get on the DIS as often without a war. Now we can be on at the same time so we should have a more harmonious life!

My 15 yr old too has felt the pain of dialup. We just got cable and it is great. He was at his dad's over the weekend so I havent had the chance yet to see him weep with joy

I would LOVE to get DSL -- and probably will. But, do you know if anything special has to be done to protect your computer (from Hackers,etc) since it is always connected? I worry about that since I also use this computer for work.

Will you be getting the week long internet connection for DS to satisfy his addiction on the cruise? It is a much better deal than paying by the minute if you think the family will use it alot. Only one person can be connected at a time but you can share one account.

Dumb question here....do you always HAVE to be connected or can you "shut it down" when you wish to have it down - like when you go out of town or something like that.

We just got DSL a few weeks ago and yes my 17 yr old DS was thrilled but the tears of joy came from me as we no longer have fights for one of us to get of the phone so the other can use the computer

We have DSL at home, and we can connect and disconnect whenever we want. It's not like at work where it's connected all the time. If it is contantly connected, you can just shut down your computer when you're not using it.

Ahhh! That magical day. I have had DSL for over 3 years, and love it. It was so boring at my friends house, when we used his PC....Dial up. Then he got DSL!

I feel lucky as well. We dont need DSL at my house and it costs a lot more. I do fine w/ 56 K and we dont fight over whos turn. The voice mail works fine to keep track of phone calls, and we just check for messages every hour or so.
