Very Early Meet - Aug 26, 2007 Wonder

it is my first cruise also and i have a brother who will be 9 when we go on the cruise! PM me if you want;)

Count us in too!!! My fiance and I are getting married in WDW on Aug.21 and will be taking the cruise for our honeymoon!!

We will be first time DCL cruisers on the 8/26 4 day!

We (DH, DW and 2 DDs (5 & 8)) will be in a Cat 6.

Hoping we love it as I have also reserved a cat 6 on the sold out 15 day Eastern Repo cruise thru the Panama Canal in Aug 2008 and will keep the ressie if we enjoy this 4 day cruise!

Unfortunately we will be doing the parks after the cruise (I know thats a no no... but the calendar was an issue for us). We are nervous about how HOT it will be in Aug... as we have been to WDW many times, but never in the summer.

We were thinking about the Atlantis day room as well for Nassau.

We will also be first time DCL cruisers on 8/26 and we are also booked on the Eastern Repo Cruise. My DH gets motion sickness, so the 4 day cruise will be the big test.

welcome silmarg! Looks like our little group is growing. We were in a cat 6 on our 7 night Western in December and loved it. We have a cat 9 reserved for this cruise but are hoping to get to the port early enough to upgrade to a 6.

I just found out ds6 won't be going back to school until 9/10. I was looking at adding the 3 day after the 4 and doing a double dip. $500 each for an inside room. Not too shabby.

The parks probably will be hot when you go, but they won't be very crowded. Avoid AK during the weekend. We went that time last year. AK was sooooo crowded on Saturday, we just walked out of the park (we're AP). Everything had a 2+ hour wait and/or were out of fast passes. There's just no breathing in that park. We made it a pool day. We went on Monday and walked right onto rides. The cm even asked if we wanted to just stay on the ride and go again on the Kali river rapids. Sweet. Most kids are back already so it's a lot less crowded.

jhryb - Our last cruise was with 4 women (3 aunts and a cousin) who get severely motion sick. They took ginger pills a week before, during and after the cruise. They also took a Bonine every day. One had the bands in addition.

Two were fine the whole 7 days.
One felt great and stopped taking the bonine. She then took one and a nap and was fine.
One had trouble in Palo because (a) it was a sea day, (b) Palo is at the back (or the front?) of the ship, (c) Palo is on the top deck. She took an extra Bonine and a nap and was fine.

All of us got rooms in the middle on the lowest 2 decks just to make sure.

mattmommy - Thank you for all the advice. We are in a SPR on deck 5 for the cruise on 8/26, so it might not be the best location for my DH (but I do not want to give up the room). However for the longer cruise we are in a cat 9 room in the centre of deck 2, so hopefully that will help. I will certainly tell my DH about the ginger and the bonine pills.

Looks like we have a nic group here!

Has anyone ever done the day room thing at Atlantis? Do we reserve that in advance?

Anyone for the NY area book their air yet?

I see Jet Blue has a $59 fare to Jacksonville from JFK... I am thinking about it...

Hi! I live on Long Island and have not booked our air yet. Southwest just came out with their August rates this week but they only go up until Aug 24th. We are not sure if we will fly on southwest or jetblue yet. I saw that low fare on Jet Blue.....looks tempting.

We haven't looked at air yet. We fly from Newark. It's only about 20 minutes from us. Wish I had the option of JFK or LAG, but thinking of travelling on the belt parkway makes me want to gnaw my arm off.

Since ds6 doesn't return to school until 9/10 we're deciding on whether to stay in FL for a few more days after the cruise. We're staying in the Contemporary for four nights (gulp) before the cruise since it's rare that it's just the 3 of us travelling without extended family. We have a time share through Hilton that gave us bonus points that we can use for a stay afterwards.

If I can pay $200 r/t pp I'm happy. I looked at old stubs from about 10 years ago paying $201 r/t so I think we do well considering inflation and the prices of gas.

I prefer Continental because that's where most of my miles are (and possibly my free air for 2008), but Jet Blue has wider seats and a tv for ds.

I hope we all have our insurance. As much as I love most of the stops DCL does (especially cc), I'd be happy with a cruise to nowhere.

Just re-posting something I posted on another board... but it related to the August cruise....

I've booked may air and tranfers for the August trip and here's where I ended up..

Flying JetBlue to Jax (from JFK) on Aug 25. $59pp. A flight to MCO at the same time would be $134 (it would be $109 a bit later.. and we wouldve flown a bit later to save the $$$). So we saved $200-$340 right here (we are 4 travellers).

We are driving to Port Canaveral from JAX... so the additional drive time to the Port from JAX (vs MCO) is like 90 mins to 2 hours... so savings of $100+/hr is well worth it.

Add the fact that the rental car (10 day rental) was $50 less out of JAX (vs MCO). We decided on a 10 day rental even though the car will be sitting in the Port parking lot for 4 days as the cost of a 1 day rental before the cruise and a 5 day rental after the cruise was actually more than a straight 10 day rental (when you factor in the $12/day parking fee the 10 day is a few dollars more but the convenience of walking off the boat to my own car was worth it).

Since we are doing WDW on the 2nd half of the trip we will be fly back from MCO (we are not AM people and we dont want to drive to JAX after a long hot day in the parks). Flight back from MCO to JFK Sept 5 on Jetblue was $89 (vs $59 from Jax). So I did forego an additional $120 in savings.

There was no added charge for dropping the car off at MCO.

One interesting item to note. When I was looking at the Jetblue fares roundtrip JFK-MCO the prices on the return flight was $99... but when I look for one way fares they came back as $89. Go figure!!!

We reached a big milestone yesterday. It is now less than 180 days until we leave for WDW. We are staying at AKL for two weeks before the cruise. I was able to start making our Advance Dining Reservations yesterday. It is a great feeling especially since we are in the middle of a big snow storm and my kids are home because schools are all cancelled in the west end of Toronto.

We have booked 6 of our 15 needed flights for our wedding group with SW out of Buffalo. I managed to get them for $59 each, we are flying out on the 18th. We will be at POFQ with our families for 8nts in total, the wedding is on the 21st. After the cruise we will then go to Universal for 3 nts at the Royal Pacific hotel.

We, too, have decided to keep the car rental for the entire 15 days. We plan on heading to the terminal early to enjoy the ship for every minute we can!!!

I just booked our cruise today. Our traveling party is DH -33, ME -35, DS 13, DS4 and MIL -61. We are going to WDW after our cruise, this will be our first time visiting WDW. This will be our 3rd Cruise with disney, but the first time on the wonder.

I am so excited. DH just wanted to do WDW, but we talked him into doing a 4 day cruise too!!!

Yes, it is awesome!!! We are so excited and are SO looking forward to it!

TMLI, are you getting married at the wedding pavillion? What time of day?

Friends were married there on 2/2/02 at 2:30. The sun shines through the window blindingly towards the congregation. Just an FYI so your photographer can adjust if that's your time slot.

Disney does a great job with weddings. I wish they had it when dh and I got married.

Hello All -

I saw one family flying out of Buffalo - we are doing the same - but we are leaving early and going to disney then ending our vaca with the cruise - this will be out first Disney cruise and I hope it is all everyone says it is!!! my children are 8 10 and 12 - girl is 8 and boys are 10 and 12! I would like to recommend for those staying in the port the night prior the radisson at the port - its excellent - i think i paid $125 for the night and you can leave your vehicle there for free and they transport for free (of course you want to tip the driver):cool1:
as far as atlantis - they do not sell any day passes for facility use - when you say facitilly use, then i assume you mean the water slides etc, those are for guests only, they told me they do not rent day rooms, but perhaps you never know. my challenge is renting a room at comfort suites - we are a family of five!! the hotel only books the maximum of 4 per room - so we would have to book 2 rooms, which i dont want to do!! if anyone is thinking of doing this to use atlantis, maybe?? if you have a party of 3, we could work something out and i could have one of your passes??? since they allow up to four in a room - email me at colleensauctions@msn.com if you are thinking about this. Stingrays are a no - no for us - i am afraid after the crocidle man incident - the one thing we did do the last time we were there, is swim with the dolphins - highly recommended and highly priced! $$$$$ i did not go through the cruise line - i wanted the actual swim with the dolphins, not just in the water and greeting them - they book up super fast - there is never the ability to get in on it when you arrive - i paid about $700 for 4 of us to do it - but it has lasting memories and I wouldnt change it for the world!! looking forward to talking to others about this cruise!!!! sooooooooooo thats it for me - maybe our kids will get together? my oldest son will be 13 just a few days after the cruise, so i might put him in the teen center - i think you can do that if the child is one month shy of the next level? looking for friends for him - he like video games, plays wow (world of warcraft) like basketball, ping pong and stuff like that - drop me an email - i have to figure out how this board works - but looking forward to everyones experiences and info - how about he hoop de doo review?? i have always wanted to go - its a little pricey (isnt all of disney?) but i hear its a definate must when visiting - ok gotta run - lets make friends with each other prior for a great cruise!!
colleen - mom of three plus the dog although the dog isnt going this time:confused3
oh i would also like to add a countdown to my posts - any help woudl be appreciated!!
