very disturbing wreck scene UPDATE #48

I want everyone to know that sincerely appreicate all of the kind words. I will go to the suggested sites. I do think it will help. I kinda feel "weird", for lack of a better word for still feeling bad, even though I wasnt involved~I simply witnessed a very sad thing.

This is the only article I have found so far (it is on various sites/news papers here in AL, but they all say the same thing)

Thanks again!! You all have helped me so much, those are not empty words, you really have. thanks!!

OP, you must be close to me as this accident was in my local news. It is a horrible not matter whose fault it was. Yes apparrently the report is saying the bikes were on the wrong side of the road but 3 teens have to live with killing 2 people whether it was their fault or not. The accident occured on Union Grove Road. It is curvy and the sight distance is very limited in spots.

There is a helmet law in AL and it is enforced!

I witnessed a horrible fatal wreck a year ago and still have nightmares. I think I probably always will. All you can do is pray.

According to this article the motorcycle driver, Doug Hake, had only purchased the cycle 2 weeks prior to the accident. He had not had a motorcycle since he was in college which was probably at least 20 year ago or more.

What a shame for those kids to lose both parents like that :( My heart goes out to that family.

This is so sad, those poor kids that lost their parents.

Now, the snarky evil side of me wants to know where the poster is that basically said that the teenagers shouldn't be prayed for and it was almost for certain their fault.

I also want to state that I am deathly afraid of motorcycles but I don't begrudge anyone wanting to ride one. I don't trust them, my DH worked with a guy, he had been riding all of his life, he was simply pulling out of the work parking lot and his bike slipped out from under him when he hit a slick patch, he was going maybe 10-15 mph. Luckily DH was right behind him and stopped, he gave him a ride to the ER, he had a pretty sever break in his leg.

I was wondering that same thing about that poster. This is so tragic but it appears, by reading the article, that the motercycle veered into oncoming traffic which would mean that the girl was not at fault.

I have already prayed for the families that lost their loved ones and am still praying for the driver of the car as well as the OP who had to see the aftermath. Things like that stay with you, even the sound of crunching metal and people crying.

I was on my way down to Myrtle Beach in 2007 for a cheerleading competition. I was car pooling with 2 other mothers. There was a semi truck in front of us, we were both travelingin the left lane. A car came up on the right side of us and wanted to pull in infront of us, there was plently of room for her to do so but she got so close to the truck before she started merging over. We all saw it coming, she was too close to the truck, we even said out loud, "She's not going to try and pull in is she?" And with that she clipped his bumper and it sent her car into the most horrific spin and roll over I have ever seen, we slowed down, but this accident seem to go on forever infront of us, she rolled at least 5 times, her upper torso flew out of the car and we saw her smack her head on the pavement, she was wearing her seatbelt though and as the car rolled it kept pulling her back in. the car finally landed right side up in a ditch.

The eerie sound of silence encompassed us all, we stopped our vehicle and I ran back to the woman, the smell of gasoline and radiator fluid was strong, the hissing sound the car made was awful. She was unconscious but did wake up after about 10 minutes. They ended up having to air lift her do to her major head injuries.

One of the things I remember most was the driver of the semi, it had taken a while for him to get his truck stopped, but I could hear him crying and yelling as he ran back to the womans car, "Please tell me there were no babies in the car, please lord, no babies."

This has stayed with me and my daughter, we even went and talked to somebody about gettting pass witnessing such trauma. I feel so bad for anybody who has to witness or just comes across an accident let alone actually be involved in it.

These stories just break my heart and I will pray for the vitims families and also for the teenager who will live with this for the rest of her life.

I have only witnessed one fatal accident and it changed my life forever. It was in 1996 and I was 23 yrs old. DH and I were just married and only had 1 car. We got up at 5am to drive him into work about 23 miles away. After I dropped him off, I drove back home by myself. I was on a major highway in Greensboro, NC and was going about 55. Their was a mini van directly in front of me going about 60. We were both in the right lane heading south. Next thing I know, the minivan veers off to the right and jumps a guardrail. The van went flyinf through the air and and rolled down a very steep embankment into a ravine below. It must have been 80 ft to the bottom. I pulled my car over immediatly as did several others.

Only 1 person had a cell phone on them ( a bag phone) and was able to call for help. We waited for what seemed like an eternity and we could not do anything about it. The drop was so steep. After 4 hours, the passengers were all brough up on stretchers. Every single one of them was dead. 2 adults, 3 small children and one baby.

It was absolutely heartbreaking to watch, but I couldn't move. It turns out, the police think the driver (the father) fell asleep at the wheel. As I was the primary witness I had to stay and talk to police, camera crews, etc.

I will never, ever forget that day. 14 years later and I can still remember every single vivid detail. It changed me forever- I will no longer fall asleep in a car as a passenger , no matter how tired I am or how long the drive is. I am kind of obsessive about it. I am constantly asking DH if he is tired every 5 minutes, even if we are only driving 10 miles down the road. He understands where it comes from though and deals with it.

I remember one accident that still shakes me when I think of it, and I don't even know what the outcome was because there wasn't really a way for me to stop and help.

My mom and I were heading down to Daytona Beach as a stop on our way to WDW. We were traveling along on our side on the road when I noticed a vehicle on the other side (we were heading S and it was going N) start to skid a bit. Next thing I know, this little sports car hits the concrete side of an overpass without slowing. I mean, they had to be going the speed limit or more. As we passed, you could see this cloud from the impact as the concrete broke.

I don't know what ended up happening, but I couldn't see a way that anyone in the front could have survived. It appeared to me that the concrete side had been pushed all the way up through the windshield, which would mean the engine block would have been pushed into the passenger compartment by quite a bit.
