I was reading a thread over on the Planning and Strategies section about how people (women) dress like "strippers" at the parks now. It was several pages long filled with things people had seen i.e. short skirts, tube tops, "Daisy Duke" shorts, g-strings showing, bras showing, etc.

Anyways someone (not naming names, you'll have to read for yourself) on there posted that we then wonder why there are so many rapes. Excuse me? I hope they were just making a sad attempt at some very sick humor.

How could anyone think that that way? Just because a woman dresses a certain way does not mean she deserves to be physically attacked. I thought as a society we had gotten past this. :confused3 Very sad.

The way I feel is that no woman deserves to be raped, but dressing like that makes yourself a target. Why make yourself a target to a rapist? :confused3 NOt to mention it's degrading and just trashy to dress that way. But I don't think a woman deserves to be raped, no matter if she was walking down the street naked.

I know very well a couple of women who have been raped. Neither dressed like that. I don't believe there is a correlation. Rape is not about sex, it is about power.

Well, I don't know who posted that, but I'm hoping they meant that the scummy rapists couldn't help themselves after seeing someone dressed so.. umm.. "tempting"? ...not that women deserve harm for dressing that way.

Very true. Most rapes often occur from new acquaintances, rather than by strangers. It really has very little to do with sex, just a man wanting a woman to feel powerless. Is it possible to be a target dressed like that? Probably, but it doesn't follow any known trends on any recent studies.

I'm already wondering whether I should contribut to this thread....
I think anyone should wear what they like without having anything too much on show and not "be asking to be raped" in saying that I often wonder why some people want to dress they way they do?

I know they saying goes "less is more" but not in that sense

Rape is a crime of anger and violence-- not sex or attraction.

I don't care if you are walking down the street naked. NO ONE has the right to touch you and no one is "asking for it." That ticks me off!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rape is all about power and has nothing to do with sex (which is why there are straight males who rape men).

I totally agree. Just because someone is dressed provocatively doesn't mean they are "asking" to be attacked. I wouold be extremely suspicious of anyone who makes comments like that. Normal people do not feel compelled to force someone into sex based on how they look.

I'm not even going to address the rape issue because anyone that thinks a woman "asks" for it by the way she dresses is an idiot -- plain and simple. It's a power thing, as everyone has stated, not a sex thing.

However, while I don't agree that just because you CAN wear something, that you SHOULD wear it, I would hardly expect all women to walk around WDW wearing muumuus or turtleneck sweaters either though.
