VERSE TWO: Then On With the Show

The cast of this show contains four of us;
Grandkids Crystal and Michael, over whom we do fuss.
And my name is Susan, though the kids call me Lolly
Bob is my spouse, a great sport and quite jolly.

The plane went up and came down; in Florida we landed.
Then rented a car so we wouldn’t be stranded.
Off to Wal-Mart next to get stuff to munch,
And also some things for the week’s breakfast and lunch.

We finally drove to the Animal Kingdom Lodge,
Where zebras and bongos you might need to dodge.
The room had bunk beds; the kids thought they were great.
And off the balcony, two gazelles tried to mate!

We hurried to Boma, a great African feast.
We ate leaf wrapped salmon and some sort of roast beast.
The kids just ate meatballs and mac with some cheese.
Not too adventurous but at least they said please.

We checked out the pool and the slide was just great.
The water was warm; there was no need to wait.
Then back to the room and get tucked into bed.
Our first day was done, “Not bad,” we all said.

Our next day started at the Animal Kingdom Theme Park.
We took the Kilimanjaro safari, though not on a lark.
Pangani Trail, Tarzan Rocks! then to DinoLand we went.
The lines were long there, so time at the playground was spent.

It was Sunday after Thanksgiving and the crowds were still there,
But we walked right into “Its Tough to Be a Bug” and each grabbed a chair.
Four year old Michael got frightened; he thought Hopper too scary.
So back to the Lodge to swim, rest, and have Coke with a cherry.

That night we saw a show that was called Hoop-de-doo.
A dancing girl sang to me, and sat on Bob’s lap, too.
The kids were wide-eyed throughout the whole show.
At the end, 8 year old Crystal, said, “Do we have to go?”

Our third day began with breakfast in room,
Then to the Studios, on a coaster to zoom.
Bob was the only one to ride Rock n Roller;
The kids met the characters and I watched the stroller.

We saw the show of the Beast and the Beauty;
Well done, very cute (and not at all snooty).
A playground stop was once again needed;
The kids ran around and then we proceeded.

We had lunch at the Café they call 50s Prime Time.
Put elbows on the table here? It is definitely a crime.
All the servers are called Mom and the food was nostalgic.
We were transported back to childhood against any known logic.

We then saw the parade with motorcars galore,
And all of the characters the kids just adore.
They do such a nice job here on parades,
Even the toy soldiers with fake hand grenades.

Early that evening we went to Disney Downtown,
Stopped in the Magic Shop and then just hung around.
A little bit later we saw Cirque du Soleil;
Its worth the price of admission, no matter what you must pay.

At one point in the show, Michael took my face in his hands,
Came close and said, “Are they real?” He is sure one of their fans.
Then back to the Lodge to do some more swimming,
And we saw in their eyes that happiness was brimming.

Day Four was the day we took off from the parks;
Drove out to the coast to see rockets, no sharks,
We took a bus tour out to the shuttle launch pads,
The crowds were very light, just some kids and their dads.

Then Bob lost the keys to our rental auto, no lie.
“I’m sure they’re on the bus, not in the car” he said with a sigh.
At NASA they deal with this thirty times each day,
And unlocked the car; we did not have to pay.

And sure enough, there were the keys laying right on the floor;
Our gratitude immeasurable, we spent lots in their store.
Back to Disney we drove; too beat to go out for dinner,
So we splurged on room service and it was a winner.

The next morning, we arrived at the Kingdom that’s Magic.
There was much expectation with no room for the tragic.
This was Michael’s big day and we went straight for Buzz;
Rode it twice, had a blast, just as everyone does.

While Bob and Crystal rode the coasters, squealing with glee,
Michael and I did Dumbo, Aladdin’s Carpets, and the Swiss Family tree.
For lunch we met at Tony’s Town Square;
Eyeore, Piglet, Tigger and Pooh showed us that they care

While at Tony’s, we met a cast member named Jim,
And Crystal became really quite good friends with him.
Jim gave her a back door pass to Space Mountain;
Which she rode with her hands up and without any shoutin’

Later we went to Epcot for dinner at Coral Reef with the fishes.
Kids had pizza, while Bob and I sampled a few of their dishes.
We sat next to the aquarium and had a great time;
Though Bob left his hat there without reason or rhyme.

What day is it now? Well, I can’t be too sure.
But Epcot was next on our schedule, so we must endure.
The Baby Swap at Test Track worked really neat,
Crystal rode it twice and declared it quite, “Sweet!”

Then off to see countries, so fine and so many.
We made stops at a few; Michael wound up smashing a penny.
The day was so nice with rain threatening later,
We decided to spend the afternoon at the pool and bake like a tater.

That evening the kids went to the Neverland Club,
And we had a date night, starting out at the pub.
We ate in Morocco and saw belly dancing,
I was thinking my abs could use some enhancing.

The hat was tracked down by Bethany, cast member supreme.
She really was remarkable; we hold her in the highest esteem.
Did we want to see Illuminations that night as VIPs?
You bet! We were there in the rain, but I did not start to sneeze.

And now it is Friday; back to the Kingdom we went;
Tiki Room, Jungle Cruise, Country Bears’ Christmas event.
We had lunch at the Castle and saw Jasmine while waiting.
Our server, David, told us trivia; we give him a high rating.

It was time to find Cinderella in her tent with her mice.
Crystal had her face painted and it really looked nice.
Michael had had enough of princesses; that much was plain.
He rode the Barnstormer six times till it started to rain.

We had dinner in Norway, the food a lot like at home,
And I started to think about writing my poem.
We saw part of the Candlelight Procession; Marlee Matlin was signing,
But it was too cold to sit still without coats with a lining.

On our way out of Epcot, Beatles’ music got loud,
And soon we were dancing in front of the crowd.
To dance with my granddaughter to tunes of my youth,
Filled my heart to the brim, and that is the truth.

Its now Saturday morning; to the plane we must run;
But first Ohana for breakfast and maybe some fun.
Sure enough, there was Mickey and some of his friends.
It is true what they say, the magic never really quite ends.

Its back to reality, but we’ll keep our trip to Disney with us
Whether we go back to work, or school on the bus.
A hearty “thank you” to Walt, and “Happy Birthday” too.
The memories are priceless, and its all due to you.

This report has been long and I thank you for reading.
I’ve tried to make some things rhyme, do you think I’m succeeding?
We are grateful we were able to take this sweet trip,
Now its back to winter and air with a nip!
