Vero or Crusie in October

Thinking about a Disney Vaction in October...only one day at the parks.

Just wondering what the opinion is on a DCL vs Vero for the second week in October. I know that is Hurricane season and Vero was hit bad last year but this is an excellent time for us to go (Canadian Thanksgiving).

A few things:

What is the weather like for the beach at that time of year? Could we still swim?

Which ever option we pic for October, we might do the other in March 2006?

Any recommendations? Is Vero/DCL better in October or March?

The later in October, the better. I read that the end of hurricane season is Nov. 1.

The end of hurricane season is actually Nov 30th. The ocean will still be warm in October. It takes longer to cool down than lakes inland just as it takes longer to warm up in the spring. Personally, I would go for the cruise in the spring.

That's correct, Nov 30. However, historically hurricanes in October and November have most often formed in the Gulf of Mexico and been much more of a threat to the US, Mexican, and Central American Gulf coasts than to the Atlantic. That does not occur every year, but that's the pattern most years. Last year was a really flukey year; I'm a Florida native and I don't remember ever having a season like last year.

Water temperature is one of those "...in the eye of the beholder" things. We wear full wetsuits when the water temp gets below 80, but you would probably be perfectly comfortable at 70. It will be fine, though - it does take it quite a while to cool down, and don't forget Florida is a pretty warm place in October, and darn hot in September.

I grew up surfing in the Atlantic off the coast of Nova Scotia. I consider water temps that are 70 degrees to be hot!!! When you are getting out of your wetsuit and it is snowing, than it is cool.
