We usually go late October/early November and have had no problem with weather. I don't think the weather would be bad at Thanksgiving. High 70's/low 80's every day??

We love the beach and have never thought anything negative about it. I have seen a lot of people refer to it as small but it really isn't tiny. It's not like the Gulf beaches but that has never really made a difference to us. We spent 3 full days at the beach when we went in October-we could hardly get enough. Rent a couple of beach chairs and an umbrella and you'll be all set. Or you can bring your own. Sometimes the ocean is very calm and sometimes it's not. If it gets really bad, they will close the beach but then you can just go to the pool. We saw a lot of really big fish jumping straight up out of the water last time we were there.

The pool is great, we love the water slide. If you have little ones they will also love the pirate ship.

The restaurants are very good. Shutter's is great for bfast, lunch or dinner. Sonya's has a great brunch and seafood buffet. The snack bar at the pool consistantly serves good, hot food.

There are all kinds of activities for kids and grown ups, waverunner tours, mini golf, bike rental, tennis, etc.

I'm sure you will love VB.

What type of room are you thinking about booking?

I'm not hiding any bad things from you. We always have a great time when we are there. Our room needed a little work and we had a rude CM at the front desk but they were no big deal.

I know that Melbourne has an airport and I know that Vero Beach has an airport but I don't know what size planes can fly in.

It's about a 2 hr drive from Orlando-so you could rent a car and drive over. Are you just going to VB? I don't know if any other airports like Daytona or Palm Beach would be closer-I don't remember the drive times. You may be able to get a deal flying into Orlando and then again you may be able to find one at a lesser used airport.

I think most people fly or drive to VB-if they are coming from a stay at WDW I think most drive over because you can often rent a car for less than it would cost you to use a car service.

Vero Beach is just about halfway between Orlando and Palm Beach International airports.
I have flown into both airports I prefer flying into PBI but that is just my personal preferance. I would go with which one has the best deals.

Melbourne has commercial flights although the schedule tends to be more limited than flight into either Orlando or West Palm Beach. The Vero Beach airport is for private aircraft only....if you've got your own plane (as some luck DVC'ers do) you are all set.

The best option for getting to Vero is to rent a car and drive and then have the car available for exploring the Vero area. If you do not drive, you can arrange for a car service/limo but it is fairly pricey. There is no shuttle service (like Mears) that goes to Vero.

The 2 times we've been there, we've flown into Orlando, and then rented a car... At one point my wife called and priced out a taxi service, but it was fffarrrr cheaper to rent the car and keep it for the week.....

Two years ago, I was there in mid Dec., and last year we went in mid November...

The temperature varied a bit... Not too hot, but usually warm enough to swim or sit in the sun.. There were a few days where it was quite chilly, but we just found other stuff to do..

If it gets too cold to swim, I'd agree with vbfamily and sign up for an onsite activity, or rent a bike and go for a ride... Maybe go to Hale Orange Groves on US-1... (November is the start of Orange season..)

Form Orlando's airport(MCO) it is about 96 miles to VB .When you get there you will see most of the parking is under ground(beneath the INN and villas). There is elevators to take you up whether you are in the Inn or one of the Villas.
The Indian River Mall is about 10-15 minutes away ( 510 west to 613 south- to 60 west) and has movie theaters. Also, you will find less expensive dinner choices around and in the mall like TGIF,foodcourt, etc. There is also a Bob Evans right next to the mall. ;)

Excellent. We like to get some of their take out meals in quart containers, that would be great for vacatons. Soups, suasage gravy, all kinds of goodies for meals. Turkey take oud dinner is pretty good. That would be very convenient, last time we were down it wasn't built yet, and I didn't see it on an earlier restaraunt list someone posted. Glad to here it's now available. You can go there, and to the Chinese takeout next to publix for some great inroom dining, with no cooking, just heat up the meals, and have great food. We'll give that a try.

Here's a site I just came accross that shares some local Vero activities:
