From my last post about twin centres miami/orlando.

And we read all of your views and are starting to think about leaving Miami out :)

I think it is that we have never left WDW/I4 areas and are a little aprehensive about choosing the right area, which will be safe and have plenty to keep DD happy.

We have been looking at using our DVC and trying Vero Beach,

1. where about's is it, i know it says 2 hour drive, what is the closest city?

2. has anyone stayed there.

We stayed at Vero for a few days a couple of years ago though not at Disney. Lovely place with nice beaches. Very quiet. Vero itself is a small city with a couple of malls and most of the facilities you might want. The nearest place of any size would probably be Ft. Lauderdale. From what I recall the Disney resort is well outside Vero - about 15 miles north. It was an easy drive from Orlando, less than a couple of hours I think, straight down the turnpike and turn off at Yeehaw Junction (love that name !).

We visited Vero Beach about 3 years ago, then should have been going again about 18 months ago but hurricane damage meant we had to cancel. We are off there again this August. We tend to begin our WDW vacation with a couple of days at Vero to acclimatise and get our body clocks sorted, especially having a DD5.

It's a wonderful resort, there are lots of activities and it has the deluxe Disney hotel feel in terms of service etc. The pool is lovely, has a slide (helter skelter type), a kiddies pool area complete with Tiger Lilly Pirate Ship, a mini golf, basketball courts etc over the road, a great camp fire in the evenings and LOADS of kid and adult friendly activities.

The beach isn't huge but really nice....

There are some things locally (ish) - mall, shops, Captain Hirams (nice restaurant), sealife centre etc.

Please feel free to ask me any questions and I'll try to answer!

I love Disney's Vero Beach resort for 2-4 days and try to go every year for a bit of relaxation and just walking along the beach/listening to the ocean. There are people who are not fond of it though and find it too quiet and too far away from any action. They have a daily programme of activities, camp fire sing-alongs, unbirthday parties and the like, with some stuff for adults too - some free and some not.

It is a lovely resort right on the ocean but as UKPhil says, it is about 15 miles away from Vero Beach centre - the closest town is actually Sebastian (home to a Wal-Mart, Publix etc). The Bee Line and I95 are probably faster than the Turnpike but busier.

Beverly J: I think you'll notice a difference since the hurricanes of how much more of the beach you can actually see from the resort now.

We spent 2 nights at Vero beach last year and are going for 4 nights this year. We had a fantastic time, the kids spent the days alternating between the beach and the pool They have a kids activity program - although we were too busy with the pool / beach / pool thing to give it a try.

Vero is now a firm part of out holiday plans. If you are looking for somewhere safe with plenty to do then I'd give it a try

like all the outhers we loved vero,it was the place we signed up dvc.If you are willing to travel the 6 hours would realy recomend hilton head island, its like vero but there is much more around it,if DH likes golf it would be paradice for him. Both vero and hilton head are easy to get too just hilton head a longer drive

We stayed at Vero Beach this year and enjoyed it so much we have booked already to go back next year.

It was a lovely couple of days away from the hustle & bustle of the parks . The beach is nice, the girls loved the pool & slide and there was plenty for them to do. DD9 loved the SnorkelEars course and the mini golf (cos she beat her dad & had a hole in one :thumbsup2

We didn't venture outside the resort but will be looking to do so next year as I wasn't overkeen on the dinner selection at Shutters - though the breakfast was good.

We drove down via the Turnpike (lots of works on SR60 to the coast) & back up the I95/Beeline. Took about 1 hr 45 mins

Disney's Vero Beach is about a 1.5-2 hour (and very simple using Florida's Turnpike) drive from WDW. I'm really just repeating what's already been said, but it's a lovely resort (albeit very Disney), right on the beach and very laid back/slow pace (which, for me, is perfect).

In the lobby is a portfolio of local eateries, but I absolutely loved Captain Hiram's. Laid-back Island living at its best.
