We're already talking about our vacation next summer - 4 adults + 4 kids aged 8-13. We want a chance to relax but have fun beach activity time and a few day trips in there too. Do we use some dvc points and go to Vero beach? or rent a cottage in Outer Banks area? Anyone been before?
(Keep it budget-friendly!) Any other ideas are welcome too!!

It depends on if you get an ocean front house at OBX and one with a pool. I have been to the OBX and Vero a couple of times. Both places are relaxing and not hustle and bustle type places. Both places you will have to drive a little to do anything 'exciting' for the kids. The beach area at VB and OBX are very similar when comparing types of waves and sand.

Its a matter of do you want to stay in a resort or at a beach house.

DH and I enjoyed the atomosphere of Vero. Like the previous post said, not much in the area for kids. We would definitely go back as a couple.

But, I also thought that the waves were a little rough when we were there. I've heard that other beaches are calmer. I don't think that my kids would have done well with the waves.
