I was looking at recreational activities at VBR and saw that they have evening turtle walks scheduled for June and July. Do they do these walks in August as well? Are there any other turtle programs besides the evening walk? I'd love to see the schedule of activities before I arrive. When we visited HH last summer there were so many programs- I would love to plan in advance for whatever they have at VBR.

Thank you for any help you may provide!!

They occur in the evening because that is when the turtles come to nest. Doesn't typically happen during daylight. Turtle nesting behavior is seasonal, which is partly why there are only June and July dates. The other part is that programs like these are closely regulated by the government, as these turtles are protected species which we nearly almost lost forever.

We've never done the one at Vero Beach resort, but have done the one at nearby Sebastian Inlet State Park and would highly recommend it (hint - it's only a $10 donation vs. Disney's $35): http://friendsofsebastianinletstatepark.org/?page_id=310

If you can't make it happen in June and July, the nearby Archie Carr Wildlife Refuge has something called "Turtle Digs" in August where you can observe turtle nests that have been uncovered to learn more about them https://www.fws.gov/refuge/Archie_Carr/visit/visitor_activities/sea_turtle_watch_programs/

It really is a unique place in the world to learn about turtles, as it has become possibly the number one stretch of land for nesting sea turtles in the world (competing with Oman).
