We are thinking about spending the Friday after Thanksgiving. How is the weather and is it good enough to enjoy the beach?

I lived near Vero (30 mins north) and we went to the beach on Thanksgiving the first year we lived there. I'm sure some years are exceptions, but sometimes you can go to the beach on Christmas, especially if you're used to colder temps. The water is pretty cold though.

The weather is usually pretty nice, temps range from low 60 to high 80. Not much rain at that time of year. Can't remember last time it rained on Thanksgiving. Reports say the water temps - ocean - run low 70's. I've seen it at 74 just off the coast when fishing day after Thanksgiving. So - walking on the beach will probably be great, and it will be chilly for swimming. The water in pool at the resort is heated.

We have reservations for Vero Thanksgiving week....hoping we're able to go. DH just got a new job so we're not sure of his vacation time. Crossing our fingers!!! We're thinking this would be a really nice way to spend TDay!

We live 25 minutes north of Vero Beach Resort. To us, that time of the year is chilly, but to someone who is used to cold weather it could feel downright balmy! The ocean water has cooled off a lot by Thanksgiving, but the pool is heated like someone else said. I kept seeing 2 BDR Interval swaps come up for Vero for Thanksgiving week, so I'm guessing that it's not a hugely popular time to go there for whatever reason:confused3

We were in Vero Beach last Thanksgiving week. The resort was pretty crowded from Wednesday afternoon through the weekend. Weather was sunny and warm during the day with a breeze. Pool water was warm. We didn't venture into the ocean but others did. Beautiful weather for walking on the beach. There was a Thanksgiving day buffet at Shutters that was very good. Room service will also deliver a Thanksgiving dinner to your room if you like.

Would Thanksgiving be fun there with little kids? I'm curious, because it would be a closer drive for us than Orlando with 2 little kids and we could probably grab a 2 BDR swap. Right now we have BWV booked for an insane amount of points. DH doesn't see what there is to do at Vero for a week at Thanksgiving with little kids:confused3 He's always saying "what if it's too cold to use the pool?" I guess he has a point, maybe?

We stayed there Thanksgiving week several years ago. We found the ocean a bit cool for us most days but the beach was comfortable and we played in the sand. For swimming we spent more time in the pool though, it was more comfortable. We're from Phoenix, so 70 something is quite cool to us!!

There were quite a few daily activities when we went. Bike rides, craft stuff, and I think there was mini-golf too.

Thanks for the replies!

I'd love to VB during Thanksgiving week some year, but hard to give up our Feb, out of the snow & gray, trip. And we really shouldn't take more then one airline trip per year.

There's also the chance for it to be unseasonibly cool in FL around Thanksgiving. (Now I realize that the weather can be somewhat different than Orlando, but they are fairly close with the Ocean somewhat moderating temps) Make sure you watch them 10 day forecasts when packing!
2 years ago ('06) at WDW before Thanksgiving it was more like average of low of 45 and high of 60. A few days before Thanksgiving, there were officially snow fluries reported in Orlando. Last year ('07) was perfect. Sunny, Low of 60 and high of 80 most days. I spent Thanksgiving day on the Gulf side and Thanskgiving day itself was kinda cloudy/misty/high of 75, but was still a very a pleasnt sheltered picnic compared to up north.

Are the turtles nesting at this time of year?

The turtles wouldn't be nesting in November. As to temps, Vero is the start of the tropics in Florida so temps tend to be a little warmer than in Orlando and the gulf stream offshore tends to moderate the ocean temps as well.

As to trades, Thanksgiving is a big family time. In my area of CT, many of the snowbirds who head to Vero Beach in the winter actually come from this area. Generally, they spend Thanksgiving with family and then head down to Florida for the winter (some go after Christmas).

If you don't need to be "home" with family I think Vero for Thanksgiving would be a great choice.
