My family (DH, DD-10, DS-9, DS-6, DD-3) and I are going to VB in April for 6 days. We are really looking forward to going but we have several questions and would appreciate any insight.
Question 1 - Do we need to bring beach towels or does the resort supply (ok to use the pool towels)?
Question 2 - I reserved two ocean view inn rooms and requested connecting rooms. Does this new 'room ready' policy I've been reading about mean it would best for us to get there as early as we can in the morning to have our best chance of getting the rooms connecting?
Question 3 - Renting bikes - I see daily and hourly rates but I can't find any info on Length of stay rates. Do they exist at Vero? Would they have any place for us to keep the bikes if we rented for the week? Are there lots of great places to ride?
Last question (finally) anyone know if there are good running routes around the resort (4 or 5 miles?)
Thanks in advance for any advice!

There are pool towels available at the pool daily. I would not take your own. There is no need. You can get fresh ones whenever you want to swim.

I guess I would agree about getting there early. It definately can't hurt your chances of getting connecting rooms unless the CM's assume you want the first 2 rooms available. Mention when you check in that you would like connecting rooms, if available.

The bikes can be rented at Eb and Flo's-the recreation part of the resort. I'm not sure if they have length of stay passes. You can return these when you are done as there won't be any place to keep them in your room. If they do have a length of stay pass, you can just pick them up when you need them.

IMHO, VB has some of the best roads for biking that I have ever seen. There is a bike path along most of A1A that my DH drools over every time we are at VB. The roads are in excellent condition, too. We are going there in the fall specifically so my DH can train on the roads with his bike-that's how good they are!

Same goes for running. He is going to run the same routes he bikes. He went for some runs last time we were there. I'll let you know if he had a favorite route.

Have fun in VB! :teeth:

alwaysrunning,

Sorry. I forgot to say welcome to the DIS!

I hope you have a great time in VB. We love it and would spend weeks at a time there if we could.

Nick,

Love the smilie!

We just returned 1-4-04 from VB and I pulled out the important STUFF I always save ;) !
Hourly bike rentals are $5 for members, $7 for guests.
Daily rentals are $14 for members and $17 for guests.
You CAN rent mini-golf equipment for length of stay, but not the bikes.

A couple of hints, get the refillable mugs with all the kiddies you're bringing. It costs 10.50 for each with free refills.... good selections too (I thought.).... ice tea, lemonade, gingerale and all coke products including cherry coke. There's a refill station right at the pool, and you can have them refilled at each restaurant too.
Bring your own soap. When did Disney start putting Ivory in their bathrooms oh yuck. Luckily I brought my own Bath and Body travel stuff.

We were just there for New Year's Eve. It was great!

The cast members at Vero are very helpful and aim to please. they are a fun bunch!

No need to bring towels. The pool towels were just fine, although small for lounging on the beach. If you plan to lounge on the beach, just bring an old sheet-thinner and lets go of the sand easier than a towel. we always have beach chairs w/us, but you can rent them there or just sit on your towel(I don't mind the sand).

If you plan to bring your own food for the room get it before you get across the intracoastal.
Ditto on the mug. Well worth it.
Mary in Shutters was great.
Don't miss the campfire.
on Wed. mini-golf is complementary for members.

Have a great time!

Thanks to everyone for the great advice! We added on VB points sight unseen. From all the posts I’ve been reading, I think we’ll be happy we did. Our favorite vacation things are Disney, the beach and staying active – so Vero seems like it will be perfect! I was a little concerned about a few things I’ve read with people complaining about the beach at Vero, but after looking at the Targrel pictures I think it looks beautiful!

We stayed at HH a couple of years ago and I remember doing the LOS bike thing there. It was great! They delivered out bikes to our two-bedroom villa and the bikes just stayed outside, next to our villa stairs for the week. We used the bikes to get everywhere, even the beach/beach house everyday. It looks like everything I need is walking distance at Vero (most importantly the beach!), so renting bikes a few times during the week should suffice.

We will definitely buy the refillable Mugs. It seems like at Vero you can really get your money’s worth on them. This past August we stayed at the BCV and bought the Mugs. The lines were always so long to have them refilled. We ended up hardly ever using them.

Thanks again! Can't wait for our first trip to Vero!

We have never had a problem with the beach at Vero. We love it!

We spend hours on it building sand castles, sunning ourselves, playing in the ocean.

Once in a while the tide is in (you'll be able to tell when it is high tide and they should have the times for the tides posted on the board near the beach) and we have to wait before we head down to the beach but we just go to the pool.

We usually rent 2 chairs and an umbrella.

Last time we were there, they had a Mars viewing party on the Boardwalk at night and brought out a huge telescope. It was wonderful.

It's the perfect place if you want to be active or relax.
