We are considering a week at Vero Beach. We will be flying from Connecticut. What is the closest airport to Vero Beach? Is there "Magical Transportation" to the resort? How far is it from the airport? Would we need a car once we are there? Any info would be helpful, Thanks!!! :confused3:confused3:confused3

I would think the closest airport would be Palm Beach but I am not sure that is very large. The closest large airports are Fort Lauderdale from the South or Orlando from the North. There is no Magical Transportation. While you don't have to have a car I would prefer having one if I was staying there for a week. There are a couple of places to eat on site but I would be bored with the places after a few days.

There is not a whole lot to do at VB. It is a great place for 2-3 days Max we use it for days prior to a cruise and see many families stay before or after a stay at WDW. MCO takes about 90 min you well need a car. Resort has many activites for younger kids plus dolphin excursions too.

Melbourne (MLB) is about 45 minutes away. It's just a regional airport though. We've gone through it a couple of times though, much less busy than Orlando.

3 days has been just about right for us, after visiting the parks for a few days.

We also fly down from CT and use Melbourne (MLB) as the airport. You would need a car, but I do believe they have transportation options at the airport. Delta and USAIR are the only carriers that fly into MLB.

Thanks all! I would be going with my adult daughter and we really just want to be bored. Food . . . Book . . . Beach. We are just hoping it will be warm enough in December. We have been to Florida in December and know the highs and lows. Hey Moodus, I graduated from Hale Ray . . . It's a small world after all:goodvibes

Melborne is closest as stated, we have flown into both West Palm and Orlando. Drive from West Palm was a little shorter. We are just a couple and have gone twice for a week each in May 12 & 13. Found enough to do at the resort and in the area. But we went to the pool most days, so in Dec as you stated that could be an issue due to weather. Only place we bought a resort mug as it makes sense since you are there for the week. Used during the day for soda and then at night by the hot tub to make wine spritzers;) Need a car to get to and from the airport and to get off property to see the area. I would check out the Vero Beach Lovers thread here on the DIS.

We flew one year from Bradley via Southwest nonstop into Orlando. We did a few days a Wildnerness Lodge Villas then we drove to Vero. Not a bad drive at all. If my memory serves correctly, about an hour drive from the Orlando airport. Had a great trip that year! Was the perfect wind down from the hurried pace of the park! Hope you Enjoy!:cool1::cool1: :cool1:

IF you enjoy gardening, you may want to visit McKee Gardens in Ft. Pierce. While there, you can also visit the Manatee Center. I've spent about a week in VB each of the past 2 Januaries, going back again this upcoming one!
