vero beach questions?

hi guys, we will be going to vero beach in 8 days. We have never been and were wondering what to expect. We have a 7yr old daughter. Are there restaurants off property that are any good? What kinds of things are there to do (if it rains,etc). thanks, maggie

Hey! You are going to love VB! We loved it so much our first time, we had to add on! LOL!!

The pool is great and they have mini golf, bikes, and an arcade.
We found the video rentals great when it rained. They also have activities for the kids. When we were there, they were playing croquet and doing crafts.
There is also a mall nearby.

They have, in the lobby, a book full of local restaruants. Mr. Manatee's was good, as was the South Shore Grill (I think that is what it is called)..they had an awesome salad bar.


Onsite, there is Shutters and Sonyas. Shutters offers a nice breakfast and a nice dinner. Sonyas is more expensive. Shutters has my favorite black bean soup in the whole world!!

It is a beautiful and relaxing resort. The staff is warm and helpful!
Just relax and enjoy it!

We love VB, too!

The food at Sonya's and Shutters is good, but kind of expensive (compared to the restaurants in the area). We liked the Patio, it's a very interesting place, good food and lots of it. The Ocean Grill was OK, but I doubt if I will go back there. There's a little store just to the north of the resort that has good food - fried chicken and other hot dishes like beans and rice. There's also a pizza place, Pasta la Vista, just to the north of the resort. The pizza is just OK, kind of tasteless crust.

As far as stuff to do, I could just lay by the pool all day with a cold drink. As if I'm not relaxed enough, I like to get a massage. Take some kites with you and fly kites on the beach.

We like the Black Pearl Brasserie in Vero Beach. Their web site says they have a customer apprciation special going on, but I don't know how long it will last. It includes several courses with or without a bottle of wine.

A co-worker just got back from Vero and said she loved the brunch at Sonya's and thought Captain Hiram's in Sebastian was fun even though they have no A/C. She siad the sea breeze was great. It's right on the water. Shutters is very good, too, and shares the kitchen with Sonya's.

Our "kids" are older so we never really got involved in the campfires, etc., but they did love the ocean and the pool! Vero is very relaxing compared to the WDW DVC's. My wife and I really enjoy the Green Cabin Room for drinks or dessert. They have a outside porch with tables where you can see and hear the ocean.

Hi-I hope you have a great trip to Vero.
We just went on our first trip there July 7-12th.
It was great.
We did get rain and did go to the mall, a cigar shop, and out to lunch. There is a movie theater at the Indian River Mall.
We had a delicious lunch twice at the Ocean Grill....it was quiet and nice to watch the ocean while we ate.

Aviod Pasta La Vista-----terrible food......so bad my husband called them to tell them the food they served was awful.
We had much better food with room service after that experience.
Shutters had some nice meals and we did go to Sonya's. We had the brunch which was good. My husband enjoyed his dinner but I wasn't overly impressed.
The staff at the resort are great---very helpful.
They were doing a lot of roadwork on A1A in Vero but it only had some delays----not too bad.

I live about 15 minutes from the Vero Beach resort. If you cross the bridge from A1A to US 1, and head south there are a ton of places to eat from burger king and McDonalds to Outback Steak house.

We were in Vero Beach for the first time in May. We had a wonderful time and it was very relaxing. Problem was we were in our room by 8-9:00Pm every night after spending the day at the pool. We have a two year old and while there are plenty of activities, once you do them we didn’t want to do them again. We decided on our third day to transfer to Disney in Orlando and did so with no problem. Our logic was that there was more to do and we still had a pool. I would have like to have seen a turtle.

One thing you MUST do, is book your daughter in for one of the VB kid evening events. They usually have a campfire night for the kids, the eat hot dogs, make SMORES! and have sing alongs. The first time we went to VB my daughter was 8, and she LOVED it!

You will have unlimited selections of restraunts within a 15 minute drive from the resort. Besides having Shutters and Sonyas on-site there is also a mall with a foodcourt and a 24 movie theater at the mall also. There is also a TGIF's at the mall.There is also a Bob Evans in front of the mall. Down the road from Outback there is also a Chilli's restraunt.
We were at VB for the 1st time 4 weeks ago and loved it so much we added on more points there!!

Agree they use to have good food there but changed owners and name.IMHO it went downhill.We use to recommend it to folks but would not do it now. The dough was old and they rolled up the edges so it was so thick that it was raw in the middle.It was not the friendliest service either.

In the center of the town of Vero Beach there are several good restaurants. Just leave the Disney property and turn left on A1A and go about 5 miles. We have tried Monte's, this ia an Italian place. The menu and wine list are fairly large. The meals are a good portion, the best part is that you can bring what you don't eat HOME.

Another good place in the center of town is Tango's. The Ocean Grill is also nice. You will probely need a reservation for these places.

In the lobby Disney has two large binders of menus from different local restaurants, just ask for them.

Our family spent a week at DVB at the beginning of July. They have a raffel for spots to go out and look for nesting turtles at night. We skipped the raffel because our youngest child would not be allowed to go even if we got a ticket. Instead, we went out looking for turtles on the beach on our own. We ended up finding a turtle before the resort group did and the resort guide ended up bringing the group over to see our turtle. The moral is, take your family out on your own turtle hunt. We also enjoyed going to the Harbor Branch Oceangraphic Institute. Also, we were eaten alive by bugs, so bring the bug spray. Have fun.

The moral is, take your family out on your own turtle hunt.

If you go out to hunt for a nesting Sea Turtle,please know what you are doing.Please try to not disturb them.We have seen people running around on the beach with flashlights looking for them.Also running up making noise, trying to grab them, etc.This will cause her to false nest or just turn around and head back to sea.

We have good results with the OFF bracelet/anklet insect repellant that we pick up Walmart in Sebastian.
