We are making our first trip down to VB this weekend. I was just wondering if there are any supermarkets near the resort, like the Publix and Super Walmart that are near WDW.

What type of activities can I get my kids involved in, my boys are 11 and 6, and my little girl is 2. The boys are bummed that they are not going straight to WDW, and they think it's going to be 3 long days before they get to WDW.

There are several stores nearby. When we stayed last yeat, I called the resort directly and got the number of the closest Publix. We ordered a full Thanksgiving meal from there and picked up all of our food and drinks. Hubbie went, but I remember him telling me it was only 10-15 minutes away.

As for kids activities, there is a full schedule every day, and it changes daily. Upon check in they should give you the weeks schedule. They have things scheduled all day long for different age groups. The UN-birthday party was fun for the kids. My kids, 14, 14 & 5 joined in many of the activities. Obviously there are much more for the younger kids, but the older kids got into the crafts and some of the events like sack racing and stuff like that. But what kept them occupied the majority of the time, was the pool and ocean. We couldn't get them out of the water.

I'll bet you your children will have a blast, and won't want to leave for Disney, lol.

Have a great trip.

My son loves to fish and had some great luck at the lake onsite and at Sebastian Inlet.
The inlet has a bait shop, small museum, and the day we were there the prettiest water you could ever ask for! The color reminded me of St Thomas when we were there.

You can try to get on a turtle walk. However note you have to be over 7 to go.

Personally we like to go to Vero after WDW so we can relax before heading back to reality!

I don't recall the name, it may have been Publix, but there was a very nice (by inner city standards) supermarket just across the bridge on the mainland. Go back across the bridge, go to the first main road, make a right, go about 3/4 of a mile or so...its on the left hand side. There's also a liquor store there....least there was.

We agree with Linda...going to VB after WDW is a good way to unwind, heal the feet, and prepare mentally for heading back to the real world. But if the choice were 'work, go to WDW' or 'work, go to VB, go to WDW', I'd choose the later. :-)

Tell your kids they are going to have a ball! In fact, they might not even want to leave to go to WDW - Vero is that nice!!

We just got back from a BWV and VB trip with 3 kids (DS-9, DD-5, DS-2.)

There is a Publix where noted by jimminarik. The liquor store is also still there in that strip along with a Chinese food place, a Subway, and a couple other places

Activities the 5 days we were there included:

Scuba Diving Lessons in Pool -- ages 12 and up I believe
Catch and Release Fishing -- might have been 7 & up
Archery -- 9 and up I think
Snorkeling Lesson in Pool -- can't remember min. age...maybe 7
Turtle Walk -- need to be drawn from lottery to participate; min.
age was 7
CampFire -- Family activity
Unbirthday Party -- ages 4-10 (get to Ebb and Flo's before 9 a.m.
the day of the party to sign-up as it fills up quickly)
Underwater Fish Hunt in the Pool -- any age.....basically the CMs
just throw handfuls of fish in for kids to retrieve; only lasts
about 10 min. but the kids liked it
Lots of activities for 3-5 year olds but 2 year olds can participate
if interested with a parent's help--they don't check ids!
;) Examples include Fish Hunt (for toy fish in main lobby, Mask/Crown making followed by tea-party and parade, treasure hunt near the pool.)

My DS (9) spent a ton of time in the arcade....unfortunately that did cost me, but he enjoyed his independence and it was right by the pool.

There's also a mini golf course right by the pool that the 9 year old and 2 year old (he's almost 3) did too many times to count.

The pool itself has a great slide, and they rent boogie boards at the end of the boardwalk to the ocean which seemed to be a favorite activity for many pre-teen boys.

Finally, based on the recos provided on this board, we went to the Green Cabin room which looks just like a bar, but the entertainers they had in the evening really catered to and involved the kids. All the kids were up and dancing, we did a conga line, etc. We had a drink; the kids all got milkshakes and thought it was great.
