Hi Everyone! My DH and I plan to take a trip next May of 2006 and are debating where to go. If anyone has ever been to both please let me know which one is better and why. THANKS!! :grouphug:

We genuinely enjoyed both but since staying at Vero, they get my vote. I liked that the resort was right on the beach, and I liked that there were onsite restaurants. This made my life more convenient, and that is what vacation is all about.

I enjoyed both resorts.

Vero might have an advantage because it's right on the ocean, though.

But the CM's are extra great at Hilton Head. Loved B'Lou Crabbe and every single CM. Must be the southern hospitality.

You might have to try one and then try the other like we did. ;)

We are looking at our first add-on at Vero Beach. Is there activities in the area and at the resort for kids? Sorry, I don't know the area very well. I see it is only about 2 hours from WDW, so that could definitely be a day trip... or an overnighter at DVC WDW.

Thanks

I would probably never choose Vero as a stand alone destination...we tacked on a couple of nights there to a WDW vacation and enjoyed it (great ocean view bar!) BUT...Hilton Head is drivable for us (so lots cheaper for our big family) and I love being on the island and taking bikes everywhere. View of the waterway and marshland from the Disney property at HH MORE than compensates for lack of direct ocean view/access. Getting to the Beach House at HH is a piece of cake and the wide beach that awaits at HH is fabulous. Maybe the beach at Vero has been replenished since we were there but it was almost non-existent at high tide. Many NC/SC beaches are "healthier" looking. The pool at Vero was always VERY crowded..HH has the Beach House pool as well as the resort pool so at least the crowds might be more dispersed. As with most vacation choices, "to each his own." I know most people love Vero and, while I was happy to be there, I just didn't see much that set it apart from Wild Dunes in the Charleston area or Hilton Head, so it just doesn't make sense for our family to go that far for an experience we could get just a few hours away by car from our home. But you know what they say "EVEN A BAD DAY AT THE BEACH IS BETTER THAN A GOOD DAY AT WORK! :sunny: So I am sure you'll enjoy either place!

Thank you for asking this question! I was just going to post the same thing! We may ditch our cruise plans and instead take an extended vacation: 5 nights at OKW and 5 nights at either Vero or HHI. We aren't really "beach people." But do like to go there..we just don't like to sit there all day. We'll have our 2 girls (9and 2) with us and don't know which one would be better to go to or if we should just stay at WDW for the 10 nights. HHI would be on the way back home so when we left there it would only take a day (a long one) to get back. Is there lots to do at HHI? We bore easily, but a few days of R and R might be good after WDW.

Maybe I missed something in the Vero area but I can't imagine being there for more than a couple of days (unless I wanted to be in the car making side trips, which I loved doing in Italy but am not much in favor of for most vacations!) I am biased towards HH as you can see from a previous post but I am sure others will weigh in and beg to differ.

We've done both - did Vero as an add on 6 days and did HH as a standalone 10 day holiday.

There is not a lot to do in the Vero area compared to WDW - we got bored. As you have young children you'd find the activities on-site are more designed for your family than for us with older teens (18 and 19). We enjoyed the beach at Vero but it is steep and the water gets deep quickly.

The beach at HH was lovely but again there is not that much to do compared to WDW.

We're doing WDW with the 3 day cruise added on at the end (next June) because we didn't find we enjoyed VB enough to want to go back there.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for putting both resorts down - but each to his own, we all bought into and go to DVC for different reasons

Thanks, Susieh! I was looking for opinions. IMO..nobody's opinions are wrong. Everyone has different likes and dislikes so you shouldn't be flamed for what you feel. ;) My feelings are kind of the same as yours, but can't say for sure because I've never been there. I think when our youngest is at least 4 we can may do a few days at Vero and HHI to try it out. DH's family had a beach house at Nags Head, NC and I could spend 3-4 days there, but got so bored after that. I grew up going lots of different places and with lots of things to do, but I do like to relax maybe 2-3 days. I may not get into HHI anyway because it's Premier season when we want to go.

We just did the 4 days @ SSR and 3 DCL (Wonder). If you haven't been before it's great! We loved it. Our DD's loved it. Only problem..way too short! It was good to see how we'd like a cruise and how it all works. We booked onboard, but may see if we can move it back a year until DD is 4.

Thanks for the info!

Pam
