DH and I will be visiting VB for the first time in a few weeks. Any last minute advice? Are there any antique shops nearby? What other activites are available near the resort?

Kennedy Space Center is about 1 1/2 hours north. Definitely worth a day trip but go early if you really intend to see everything.
I think you can still find info off http://www.nasa.gov.
Vero Beach area is pretty quiet but there is a small treasure museum a few miles north on A1A called McClarty's. There is the more well known one in Sebastian a little farther north. You can get some sense of the history of the area from visiting these.
The area to the south is mostly gated residential communities. There is a nice public boardwalk and park in downtown Vero and quite a few good restaurants. I like the Black Pearl. They have a website http://www.blackpearlvero.com/index.html Fort Pierce about 35-40 minutes south has a Navy SEal Museum (small). If you go to the Kennedy Space Center check out the Disney Magic Cruise Ship in Port Canaveral about 35 minutes north of Vero. It is an impressive sight if it happens to be in port. Sign up for the Turtle watch near the front desk at Vero if you are environmentally inclined. They have a great program on endangered turtles that nest in the area. You have to be lucy enough to have your room number drawn out of a hat. Spaces are limited. Have a good trip.

Sorry had to edit the Black Peral site

I'm not sure about antiques, but there are a lot of nice little shops in Vero Beach, near the boardwalk area. Some sell original art work, some are more like boutiques or gift shops. It makes for a pleasant stroll.

Of course, out near I95 there is also a Mall and an Outlet Mall. The Outlet Mall is a fair size with lots of stores. The mall has movie theaters for a rainy day. If you decide in the middle of the night that you just have to go shopping, and don't mind a 45-60 minute drive, you could always head up to Ron Jon's surf shop, open 24hrs a day in Cocoa Beach. It's a pretty reasonable size store, and fun to stop in.
