We have about 9 of us going down to Vero Beach for a week in August, its our first time. As I have been reading the threads it seems to me that there is not much to do. It seems most go for a couple of days before or after a trip to WDW. We have 5 kids aged 8 through 13 and all close and active, they all love the beach, and swimming pools. Is there enough activities to keep everyone going. Any advice is more then appreciated.

IMO, Vero is a beautiful area and a great resort. I think with the beach and pool, everyone will be very happy, especially the kids. Nothing wrong with relaxing while on vacation. Enjoy your trip.:cool1::banana:

Lots to do for the kids!! Next to the pool is a miniature 9 hole golf course. Campfires at night. A discovery club for ages 4 to 12 (crafts, games, etc), catch and release fishing, snorkelling...trust me, they can keep busy!! For adults..if you tire of the beach (never!!) and pool, there are wonderful shops in town. Also, for a fun eating place, try Capt'n Hirams http://www.hirams.com/ There is also a boat ride from Captain Hirams along the Indian River...which is nice but not worth the $30 they charge. In any case, have a terrific time. We love it at Vero!

Do they have daily activities for the kids, like pool games and the such?

I could sit by the pool with a book and a cooloer of cold beer all week long. Problem occurs when those lovely sounds come from my bueatiful children "We're Bored". So if there are activities, my kids are not the shy type, they will join right in and have a blast.

Yes, they have LOTS of activities and some are geared toward certain age groups. Some are free and a fee is charged for others. The Discovery Club, which is 3 hrs was $30 each, including the dinner.
The basic fishing experience was also $30. Some of the other things, like arts and crafts also are a fee for materials. I had my 9 1/2 year old and almost 7 year old grandchildren and they loved.
The Campfire is free, including s'mores.
We left and went offsite to eat during the Discovery Club, so it also serving as a "sitter" and for that purpose is below the $11-12 hour that the WDW resort charges for its kids' clubs.
The "counselors" were very enthusiastic and energetic with the kids.
Lots of things around the pool are free.
Flo and Eb's print a weekly schedule of activities, times, fees, etc.

.

I must honestly say that I have not seen the cast members doing any pool games as I have in Boardwalk or Beach Club. It's doesn't necessarily mean they don't, I just haven't personally seen it.

We have 3 nights at Vero Beach next month and I'm very interested in the Discovery Club and fishing. Can this be booked in advance and if so, how?:goodvibes

Many thanks for any help.:thumbsup2

Most of the activities are geared toward certain age groups. For the younger kids, they activities like arts & crafts, scavenger hunts, junior chefs, bingo and the Unbirthday party. For the older kids--snorkeling lessons, scuba lessons, various sports (soccer, kick ball, dodge ball, basketball, fishing, archery) and kayak tours.

Some of the activites are free, some cost a few (or more) bucks.

Fun for all ages--waterslide races, mini golf, dive-in movie and the campfire.

Can anyone tell me about the Unbirthday? I think my DD 5 would like it but I think DS 3 is too young. Not sure I can send one without the other.

Do they have any activities for adults? Maybe wine tasting !!!! We will be going in May and have no children. This will be our first time at VB and looking forward to relaxing on the beach for a couple of days. Thanks :banana::banana:

When we were there in June they had a DJ and pool games both Saturday and Sunday from 1 till 4 but it didn't seem as if there was anything the next few days that we were there.

We were there in July and same as Daffydee, they had pool games and DJ on Saturday and Sunday but nothing the other days. We love the beach and pool but all said that our 5 days was just about enough time - no hearing that I'm bored but it was close!

Just returned from Vero mid July and there was a wine tasting scheduled. I don't remember the exact date or cost (there was a cost) but it was on the schedule. We didn't have time for it.

There are many activities to do but my DS's (13,10) just wanted some shovels and buckets and water "toys". Never heard the words "I'm bored" and I finished 2 novels while at Vero. Since we've been home I've heard those dreaded words more than once.

We've done Easter the last 2 yrs at Vero and my DS's (12,8) love it. Like you the last trip I think I read 2-3 books. We stop and get them boogie boards and sand toys and they are set. Book them a few activities and we are set for the week. We all love the resort.

Mine both love the ocean, we just got back from Myrtle Beach 2 weeks ago, they would spend the whole day at the beach if given the choice.

Just out of curiosity - were there any activities geared specifically to teens? Considering going to VB at some point but with teens that aren't into spending more than a couple hours at a time at beach/pool...

Thx!

I just got back from Florida this morning. We did a 7 day disney cruise, one day at Kennedy Space Center, 2 days at Vero Beach and one day at Old Key West. All on points - so I don't get a vacation for another two years but it sure was worth it!

There was plenty of activities listed in the Daily Guide of activities, but honestly, it is more geared to the 5-10 year olds. Most items are listed as "5 and up" so your teenager would be okay to join I guess. I had a 12 & 13 year old and after having to share a ship pool they enjoyed spreading out in this pool. They loved body surfing on the beach - not big waves but enough to play in. The DJ was there on Sunday, but not listed for Monday. The Unbirthday party was held on Monday, Wednesday & Friday - but we didn't attend. (BTW it is listed for 4-10 year olds) As I reread the activity guide for the week of July 26 - August 1 - I don't see anything especially geared toward teens.

We enjoyed our stay at Vero, but I don't know if I'd do more than 3 days ... I need a bit more to do also.

We were sitting near an "make your own art" table, that didn't have any visitors in the two hours it was there

Thanks so much! That's just exactly what I needed to know (even if I wish the answer were a little different.) Many thanks!
