Heading down for what is becoming our annual Easter trip at the end of March and to my dismay we recieved a letter from DVC stating that the beach @ VB could be closed Monday through Friday during that time. I did a little digging into the "beach nourishing" project and found out that indeed this was true.
I have heard there is truckload after truckload of sand being placed on the beach with the trucks running right through the Disney beach area. Living on Long Island, I understand the need to replenish our shorelines but this is a bummer.

Anyone been down there recently to witness this first hand? I've done some mining on the internet and I've read some articles in the local newspaper sites and such and read that it is slow go and just a mess overall. Any info would be appreciated:sad2:

There's a thread on this very topic somewhere on these boards. Some people have cancelled their trips due to this. It's a real bummer.

We decided to cancel after receiving notification

DVC was very accomodating and we will save our first VB stay for another time.

How accomodating was DVC? We have a room booked for Thursdat 4/1 after our cruise. If the beach is closed that day we will cancel. Will Disney waive the holding policy for us? Spoke with member services and the unofficial
date that the beach is opening is 3/26. I am either going to experience a great new beach or heavy construction. The latter not an option for us, and I can't book at WDW at this time as a back up plan since those points will be subject to the holiding policy. I hate last minute planning and this is going to drive me crazy. :confused3

We were down 2 weeks ago, which was the first week of the beach closure. We got there on a Sunday and the beach was open. We stayed until Sunday and the beach was open two of those days, not sure why - maybe because of the time that high tide came in. My son and husband were interested in watching the trucks going by. Infact that seemed to be a favorite pasttime for some men while we were there. We had a great time, even with the closure. The staff had extra activities going on and they had a shuttle going to a nearby beach for those who wanted to go.

Hope this info helps.
