Hi!
The more I look into it, the more desperate I am to try out Vero Beach. It looks great! However, I cannot find much info on it. Does anyone have any good photos or links to websites with info on the DVC resort there?

DD21 months has a fascination with crocodiles. She has been saying the word for ages, she has lots of croc toys and she gets really excited if she sees a crocodile on TV. I think I saw a pic taken at Vero Beach which showed a topiary crocodile plus in the background of another pic I think I saw some colourful plastic croc statues in a wet play area? Am I seeing things?

I know POFQ has crocodiles around the pool so we might visit there next trip. Plus Gatorland of course (gators, lizards, dinosaurs, they are all crocodiles to DD :earsboy: )

Any crocodile or Vero Beach info much appreciated!

The crocodiles at the pool are great at POFQ. They squirt water. The 2 near the entrance to the pool are 'alive' they change positions and accessories. Gatorland is great if you are a croc fan, unfortunately they do sell croc and gator leather items and serve gator nuggets at the eatery:earseek:

There is a topiary crocodile at VB in front of the resort - I have a picture of my kids with their heads in it! As for the pool - I can't think of any crocodiles - there's a pirate ship play area that is great for little kids. I think the putt putt area may have a crocodile at one of the holes. Then there is a underground walkway from the resort across the highway to a lake area with tennis courts, etc - and the underground tunnel has peter pan scenes painted on it - with ticking sounds echoing in the tunnel. We love VB - definitely tag it on to one of your trips to DW.

Vero used to have aligator spring rolls on the menu, but I didn't see them last trip.

Aren't crocodiles in Africa and Asia and alligators in FL and the Gulf region? Help me...it's been a long time since grade school!

That's what I was thinking, too. May not see any crocodiles at VB, but maybe some alligators.

Uh...no. Crocs are in Africa, South America and Australia. Not sure about Asia, but I wouldn't be surprised. Alligators are found only in the US and China. There are other species of crocodilians - Caymans, etc. - scattered around.

And, believe it or not, the Southeastern tip of Florida from Everglades National Park up almost to Miami, is the only place in the world where crocs and alligators coexist side by side. The American Crocodile, a salt-water animal, is an endangered species and the American Alligator, a fresh water animal, is a threatened species (primarily because of its similarity to the croc).

In the last few months, trappers have removed two large crocodiles from the lakes on the University of Miami campus in Coral Gables. The largest population of crocs is in the cooling channels at Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant, but you can't go there. If you go to Everglades National Park, you have a good chance of seeing crocs around the marina at Flamingo.

Hi! OP here. I think I have started some confusion here. I wasn't looking for info on seeing REAL crocs or gators! DD is only 21 months and has an interest in crocodiles (toys and in books and on TV cartoons) so I was looking for info on where in Vero there are croc statues or animatronics like the ones round the pool at POFQ. More croc theming than real crocs I guess.

Interesting info though Ranger Jim, thanks.

I agree...very interesting. Isn't it strange that alligators are in China and the US. If China, then why not Thailand, Viet Nam, etc.. Thanks for the help, Ranger Jim.

Mandy, good luck on your quest.
