Hi: Has anyone travelled to any of these locations with tips on what to see or where to stay. Hubby and I are looking to get away for a few days and have never been to these states.

Thanks,

Deb.

We have been to all 3 and they are nice. Maine is a bit more of a wilderness ,but b eautiful. New Hamp. has no tax and that made shopping fun. Strawberry Fields in Portsmouth is a great place to visit . It is the original town.I think it is Portsmouth ,you should check. Vermont is also lovely , you cant go wrong whatever you pick.

I would pick Vermont, only because dh and went there for our 10th anniversary and loved it so much that we went back this summer with our 2 boys (on our way to Visit friends in Boston, and VT isn't really on the way there...lol). We stayed in Stowe and I think it is such a beautiful quaint little town. Lots to see and do and so many places to stay or eat. www.gostowe.com I think that is the website.

If you only have a few days definately go to Vermont, about a 6-7 hour drive.

It's our favourite getaway. We've been there at least a dozen times.

Things to see/do:
-Drive through scenic Adirondacks and stop in Lake Placid on the way
-Take a ferry across Lake Champlain and take in the mountain views
-take a day in Burlington, Vermont to explore their great downtown (stay at the Hawthorn Suites, in South Burlington, a great hotel with excellent hot breakfast and even a cat, "Butterscotch")
-take a tour of the Vermont Teddy Bear Company
-visit the Shelburne Museum (minutes south of Burlington) where they exhibit collections of collections, really interesting stuff
-head to Stowe for a couple days (stop on your way in Waterbury, home of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream--take a tour)
-we stay at The Golden Eagle resort, a great little resort in the middle of the action
-drive up the mountain road through Smugglers Notch, a very unique roadway
-get a pizza from Pie in the Sky across from the Eagle, DELICIOUS!!
-Enjoy the clean mountain air...

Ahhhhhh...wish we were going soon, next summer for sure.

Be sure to go, you'll have a great time I'm sure.

That was where we stayed the first time we went....but this summer we stayed at the Innsbruck Inn....it is a little smaller, but less expensive and honestly we enjoyed it more.....wonderfully friendly hosts and an awesome buffet breakfast that is included in your stay.

The gondola and toll roads up Mount Mansfield are definitely both worth taking.

Thanks everyone:

I will check it all out. We are leaning toward Vermont, because it is not so far away. Did the drive to disney last dec and we just don't feel like driving too far this fall. Thanks for telling me how long a drive it is and all the places and things to do. Sounds great.
