Any thoughts as to reliability of service?

Thinking about changing carriers now that cell numbers will soon be portable.

I use verizon and I always have a signal. I just signed my mom up on the plan and one of my aunts and my cousins have the plan. America's Choice..I like it and it works in DISNEY!!! I am happy with the serivce.

We have only had Verizon and love it - we shopped around at the time (3 years ago) and they were the only ones with both analog & digital signals which was essential for DH's job. We have never gotten dropped off and can get a signal anywhere we've tried. The couple of times we've needed to contact the service department have been great. We've even switched plans to better suit our needs and it only took 1 simple phone call. We're very pleased with what we got!

DH & I just dropped Verizon. We couldn't wait to drop them. The service worked wonderfully. However, we felt that the company was constantly trying to rip us off. DH had a national plan but was constantly hit with roaming charges  Every month, he would have to personally go into the local verizon store & have the charges reversed. Every month they told him the charges should not have been there and that they had taken care of the problem. DH managed to break the antenna on his phone with only 6 weeks left on the contract. (He owned the phone) He could not purchase a replacement antenna. He would have had to purchase a new phone. Verizon will not let you purchase a new phone without a new 1 year contract.
DH went in a week before contract expired and asked to have it terminated upon expiration. CS told him, you have to come in on THE day of expiration but couldn't tell him exactly which day that was. I called to terminate the day before the contract expired (if you don't cancel you are required to continuing paying). When we received the final bill, it contained a $350.00 early termination fee. Needless to say I had the charge reversed. My point is, if you go with verizon, be prepared to scrutanize you bill every month and set aside a couple of hours per month to deal with correcting verizon overcharges.
(Sorry about the long post.)

We use verizon and have had no problems. We just signed a new 2yr contract w/them. While here in NY during the blackout my service worked fine, were as others were not.

We have them, and they work pretty well. We don't have much choice, as they are the ONLY service that works down here!

I haven't had problems with bills and charges, but given mom's experiences posted here, I'd talk to people who are in your area and see if they have problems. It sounds like something associated with their billing area.

disclaimer-I work in telcom and have stong opinions about quality of service and transport.
We have phones with both AT&T (mine and younger DS) and Verizon-(DH and DS in college) We have been satified with AT&T until we tried Verizon. They have better converage-Dh's phone works in out in the Military Range at Camp Gurnsey, Wyoming-thats very impressive actually. The cost for the number of minutes and service provided has been reasonable, we have had no billing problems and the customer service we recieved has been excellent-as for AT&T the coverage is OK, the customer service is non-existant and I keep the phones because I got the plan through my employer when my company was a customer of theirs and they are unbelievably cheap.

I've been with Verizon since they came to our area (at least 4 years.) I have never had a problem and we have traveled in IL, IN, KY, TN, GA, FL, OH and a few other states that I have probably forgotten. DH & DS had different carriers, but I changed them to Verizon as soon as I could, now DD also has a Verizon phone. I think the service is great, and have never had a billing problem.

I've had Verizon wireless service for the last few years and I don't have any complaints. I can't give any advice on their phones, I don't have a verizon phone, just use their service. I don't know anything about the contracts either, does that vary by area? I don't have a contract with them, that was one thing I really liked about them was that there was no contract. It works great at WDW too and we all know how important that is. :teeth:

We have the Family plan with Verizon. We've been with three other carriers in the past seven years, and always went back to Verizon. They have excellent coverage, few dropped calls, generally good quality, and we haven't had any major billing problems.

I don't work for them, I'm just a happy and satisfied customer :)
