Verizon Wireless MiFi2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot

This is for the people that I've seen on the boards who live in rural areas and wrestle with decent internet service (like me).

We live in a rural area and don't have access to DSL internet. We dealt with dial-up for a few years and then switched to satellite (Wild Blue) a couple of years ago (and haven't been terribly pleased with the speed even though we have the more expensive package).

Recently, some friends at church told us about Verizon Wireless MiFi2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot. I was doubtful because we live in an area with a very bad cellular signal (we have a booster for our ATT cell phones), but they live in the same area.

I stopped by the Verizon Wireless store yesterday, and we are amazed already. The signal is excellent, and the internet is much faster than the satellite we already have.

Also, you can run up to 5 computers off the little box (approximately credit card sized just a little thicker), and you can take it with you anywhere you want to go (portable).

It does require a 2 year contract (it has a phone number), but you have 30 days to determine whether it will work for you. It costs $59.99 a month, and the hardware is $100 (then you can send in a $50 rebate).

Just to add another option for those living in the boonies without high speed internet; Millenicom.com. They use a mobile broadband device that uses Verizon towers, but there's no contract required. I was very skeptical that it would work where we live because we have ATT for our cell phones & the signal stinks. Like horseshowmom, I was amazed that this device works out here!

Millenicom.com is $59.99 a month for 5GB. If you purchase the device for $99, you get 10GB a month for the same $59.99. I've been using it for about a month and couldn't be happier! Not as fast as dsl or cable, but way faster than dial up! Another big selling point for me is their customer service is fantastic.

I have that and love it! I bought it because my husband is deployed and our only communication is online so when I travel I needed to have reliable internet. I've never had a single issue with it. I've used it while driving down the interstate (I was not driving, my dad was at the time! lol) and watched youtube videos and surfed the web with no issues. I'm about to cut out the internet at our house and only use the card from now on.

I have to say that I'm amazed at how well this is working. I've had an ATT aircard in my laptop before and didn't have much success with it at home. Plus, it was just good for the one computer. This, on the other hand, is amazing!

Virgin Mobile also has a Mifi device which operates through Sprint network, but it is pay as you go and no contract is required. It is $40 for unlimited data for the month or $10 for 100 mb for 10 days.
