Verizon FIOS Internet Question

I am switching to FIOS Internet and had a question. I realize that some type of a box is put outside your home on the siding, but is there one that goes inside, too? A friend of mine said that there is something they put on the wall while others said that's not true. Anyone know?

When we had ours installed we did have a box put inside. I think its the battery back-up, but I'm sure it has a much more important function too

If we have one inside, I'm unaware of it but they were doing stuff down in my basement so maybe that's where it is. I'm clueless!

My inside box is actually a tad bit larger maybe 12 x 12 x 4. It is a battery backup and there are wires that are hooked up around and into it. It is in our cellar. If I didn't have a laundry area I am not sure where we would have put it, I would call it an eye-sore.

Ours is in the basement beside the electrical panel.

One box is the gateway, the other is the UPS. The UPS needs to be within reach of power. The gateway typically goes wherever your network interface has always gone. For us, both boxes were put in our basement, next to the electrical panel.

That's where ours are so you don't even see them unless you have a reason to go in the back corner of the basement.

Question about this: Is the internet from Verizon FIOS much faster than anything else on the market?
Well, everything is relative. FiOS does offer the fastest service generally offered to residential customers. There is, of course, faster service available, though typically marketed as business service.

Furthermore, most broadband service providers offer various levels of service. Comcast, here, offers three or four levels, I believe. The highest level Comcast residential broadband service will beat the lowest level FiOS service, on performance (but will cost a lot more, of course).

Thanks!

So what kind of connection is used for the computers in a home that uses FiOS? Do they run CAT5 cables to various rooms in your home ("regular" Ethernet cables) and install ethernet jacks? Do they only give you one jack, and expect you to install a wireless router to connect your various networked devices?

Our moden is wireless and is connected to a standard 75 ohm cable connection outlet.

As far as I know this is the standard issue FIOS modem as I wasn't offered a choice.

They don't run cables (at all - doing so is a violation of Verizon policy, these days). You can have an electrician wire your home for Ethernet before the install, if you want to, and if you do, then Verizon will then provision your service that way.

However, most customers just rely on MoCA, which is basically a local area network run over coaxial cable already running through your home, riding copaceticly alongside the television service.

The really neat thing is that you can buy these little adapters that you can plug into any coaxial port in your home, and have a wired Internet connection anywhere.
