Verizon Customers REJOICE (maybe)

I'm going to wait until an official announcement to make a final decision, but we were going to get Droids until this latest rumor came out. We're just eligible to upgrade now but if we wait a little longer we'll have a credit, too. So I dunno. I really want an iPhone, but I really love Verizon! Here's hoping.

And you mean Justin Bieber is still alive? Phew, I can live another day! :rotfl2:

This is what I'm doing. My Blackberry is on it's last berry. I'll just feed my iphone addiction at the Apple store.

I read about a month ago that yes, Verizon is getting their version of the iPhone, but it won't be for a year to 18 months until they upgrade to a 4g network. Right now Verizon only has 3g and it will take some time for the upgrade to occur across the country.

I'd put this in the "I'll believe it when I see it" camp. This rumor surfaces again and again.

I love my iPhone, and we fortunately have good AT&T coverage in our area, so I'm content with where I'm at right now. But I do like Verizon's network better, so I would consider switching when my contract runs out if (and only if) they get the iPhone.

I saw an analysis on Bloomberg today of how many new customers Verizon would pick up when they began selling the iPhone which leads me to believe that perhaps there is some credibility to this rumor. I have decided to delay our planned upgrade to a Droid for a bit to see what happens. By then they should have worked out the current kinks in the new iPhone as well.

Switching to AT&T was never an option for us. The only carrier that works at our house is Verizon. My brother used to have AT&T and when he would visit he had to go stand by the flagpole and lean in a certain direction to get reception!

Yeah, the only network that really has a 4G network is Sprint, and a friend of mine just switched FROM Sprint to AT&T to get the iPhone. Obviously that 4G network didn't sway him! It's odd - I wonder why, considering that, why Sprint isn't in the running to get the iPhone? Hmmmm.

We are probably looking at August/September before new phones so I am hoping by then something will be official. If we don't hear about the iPhone by then, we are looking at the Droid X. If we DO, we will wait.

We have ATT, I have the iPhone 4 - talked to the rep at ATT today - apparently there is some big change coming in the next year - all wireless providers will share networks - so no more "dropped" calls, hopefully.

I don't get the ATT/Apple hate - we've had ATT since it was BellSouth - there are some areas where we don't get coverage, or another's coverage is better, but overall we are happy with the service. When I got my iPhone 4 this week, we tested the reception problem - lost about .5 of a bar of reception when we covered that lower corner of the phone. Not an issue, since I use a silicone cover, and even if I didn't, most people don't hold their phones the way to "have to" to cause the reception issue!

I have heard SO many mixed opinions on AT&T's service. Some say they have never had any issues with it, and some have awful service. Verizon is so consistent - when we've evacuated for hurricanes (yay Houston) we've had no issues with reception. I know people who have switched from T-Mobile or Sprint for AT&T, but not from Verizon. We Verizoners are loyal folks! Yes, I made that word up.

I don't think you will see an iPhone on Verizon until LTE is not only rolled out but is available in all major markets. CDMA is a US only standard that is on the way out. Apple isn't going to make a phone that will only work in one country, even if the country is the US. LTE will be a worldwide standard, or at least as worldwide as GSM. It is also important to point out that both Verizon and AT&T will be using LTE as their 4G standard as opposed to WiMax. This means that the same phone can be manufactured for both carriers once LTE is the standard.

The article that kicked all of this off came from "unnamed sources close to Apple" which has about as much legitimacy as "I deciphered the message hidden in unicorn tears".

The current issue with 4G on Sprint (WiMax, not LTE mind you) is that it isn't available in all markets and Sprint is charging a premium on top of the additional data charges. Their problem is less about technology (though I do think LTE will be the better standard) but about pricing.

I just heard about this....it's not the Incredible? How many droids are there??

No, it's not the Incredible. Right now, there's the:

Motorola Droid
HTC Droid Incredible

and soon the Motorola Droid X, which is just an upgraded version of the Motorola Droid.

Here's a good (but lengthy) review on the new Droid X from engadget:

http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/01/motorola-droid-x-review/

Basically, it's got a bigger screen, better camera (8MP), better video (720p, which is considered HD), and a faster processor. :thumbsup2

He's not dead, my friend just saw him at the local movie theater tonight! :rotfl:

:lmao: The only reason I mention it is because the "breaking news" happened during my daughter's 8th grade graduation dance and I had a number of panicked, crying girls. Had to go outside, call my mom, have her check the internet and TV news to make sure it wasn't true before they could go back to enjoying their night.

I've been hearing iPhone rumors at verizon stores for over 2 years now. I will believe one only after I have a verizon iPhone tightly grasped in my hands. Dh has a droid and I absolutely hate it. I'm on my itouch right now and would love to get an iPhone. There is no way we can justify a single AT&T line with our family plan at verizon.

As for the new every two ... I just went through this with verizon. In Feb. of 2010 they changed their new every two policy. If your upgrade was before that you can still get up to $100 but if your upgrade was after that (maybe the 9th of feb??) the ugrade credit is only up to $50. I went round and round with verizon regarding this because my Dad and I ordered the Incredible two days apart from each other and mine was $149 and his $99. We both have the same 1400 min Family Share plan. He became elgible for upgrade on Feb. 1 so he had the $100. I became eligible for upgrade on May 19 so I only had the $50 credit.

ETA: I have had Verizon for over 8 years now, maybe 10 and I always had the $100 credit until this year. The reps I spoke to all said the same thing, it was because the phone were becoming less expenseive. I haven't seen that but ok!

FYI
If anyone needs to upgrade earlier than 2 years, I read that if you have a 2 yr contract you can do an early upgrade on primary line after 1 year, but will have to pay early upgrade fee of $20 and won't get the new every 2 credit .
