Okay,

Just wanted to get some confirmation on the following scenario.

If you have two contracts at two different resorts and book at one, but need to borrow points from the other contract, do you need to wait until the 7month window to use points? since it's not the home resort your booking at?

Confused?

Scenario:
I own at VWL and want to buy a BCV or AKL contract. I'm booking at AKL and want to stay for 5 nights, but I only have enough points for 3nights.

When can or can I borrow points from my VWL contract to cover those last two nights? Do I have to wait till the 7month window since the points are from the VWL contract?

I'm not sure if any of this is possible...please help me understand.

THanks,
Bfrosty

I believe you have to wait until the 7 month window to book the additional nights at AKV using your VWL points. Same thing would go if the situation were reversed and you wanted to use AKV points at VWL.

Can you borrow next year's AKV points to use for this vacation? You won't have to touch this year's VWL, which you can bank for a trip next year.

Points only have the home resort advantage (11 month window) at their home resort. It does not matter if you also own points at another resort. So you are correct that you cannot use points from another resort until the 7 month window starts.

Borrowing refers to using points from a future year and not from another resorts. So you could borrow the necessary points from the next year from the correct resort. So. in your case you can make your reservation using a mix of AKV point from this year and next. You could then bank your other resorts points into next year for a longer vacation at that resort.

I don't have enough points at SSR for a vacation every year so I bank points and only go to that resort every other year. OKW I have an excess of points so I end up taking a cruise or going to Hilton Head for Christmas every 3rd year to use up the excess.

lots of people do this. they own one contract at VWL and buy an add-on at AKV. the add-on at AKV is smaller and only has enough points for 3 nights or so at AKV. so they use their current UY's points at AKV to book AKV for 3 nights and also borrow the next UY's points AT AKV to book the remainder. that way they have enough AKV pts to book 5-6 nights every other year using banking or borrowing (against their AKV contract).

but think in terms of "currency" and not "home resorts." if you want to book AKV at 11 months, you need AKV points to pay for it - it doesn't matter if you also own at 5 other DVC resorts. you can use banked AKV pts, current AKV pts, borrowed AKV pts or even transferred AKV pts - but only AKV pts till you hit the 7 month window.

it helps to only talk about "borrowing" when you are referring to the next use year for that contract. here is a good thread for understanding UY if you need it.
