does anyone know how strict the cast members are on the age cutoff for the DDP? My DD is 10 but she eats like a bird and only wants the food on the kids menu's. That is usually fine because most kids menus go to age 12. Do you think anyone would question it if I bought her the plan as age 9?

If I'm not mistaken....anybody can order off the kids menu. The kids just can't order off the adult menu.

If she is in the Disney system (from a previous trip) you cannot change it..they store this info...in this case she would be forced to buy her the adult plan...however, you could simply buy her CS meals from the kids menu OOP and use her credits for snacks or breakfast for other members of your party...I am not sure this would work though for TS...maybe you could use up her TS credits doing some 2 credit meal such as Hoop-dee-do??

If she's ten then she's ten. You need to get her the appropriate dining plan.

I'm sure the moderators wll close this post down fairly quickly.

I agree...not trying to argue or "cheat" the system...That is the reason for my suggestion of buying her smaller meals out of pocket even though she has already paid for DDP...they in-turn give Disney more money...not sure why the mods would shut the post down for saying that? :confused3

My sister's son doesn't eat hardly at all. either. He turned 11 while we were there in december. She brought the adult plan for him but usually paid out of pocket for whatever he wanted. Her and her dh used his table service credits for signature restaurants. Like someone else said if your dd is in the disney system then they already know how old she is and you'll get charged the adult meal plan.

I'm not up to speed on the park ticket prices, but doesn't the age change at 10 as well?

So if that's the case, you are cheating the park ticket system, because in order to get the DDP, you have to be on a package and that includes park tickets.

They would still buy park tickets for this child AND the DDP for a 10 year old...however, they would simply Pay OOP for her kids meals (since she is a small eater)...then they would have her credits on the DDP left to use for signature meals or for breakfasts, snacks, etc...Disney is actually coming out ahead...no cheating the system when you are doing that.

Thank you for this. My 10 year old would be much happier eating off the kids menu in some restaraunts. She likes the adult menu in some, but I am glad we have the option.

if ripping off is the name of game, then charging 37.99 for a 10 year old child qualifies. I don't know any kids under 12 that would ever eat an adult size portion of anything. Aren't their stomachs the size of an apple? They should make their DDP 12 and under like every other restaurant in the world. And, your not cheating the system if the kid is only eating chicken fingers. We're not saying pay 9.99 and order filet mignon. That's losing money.

My DS12 was 10 when we first started going to WDW and using the DDP. We never would have considered changing his age just to save a few bucks. That would be lying. And he has NEVER had a problem eating his adult meal.

It's one of those decisions you have to make. If the DDP doesn't work, legally, for you then don't buy it. Or as other posters have mentioned pay out of pocket for her and use her adult table meals for your sig./character meals.

Sorry, JMHO.

Disney is private property and they make the rules, just as any private company can do for any activity which takes place on their property. These rules are published.

As far as age:

Infant - Up to but not including third birthday - Free entry to parks, free meals at buffets/AYCE, allowed to eat of plates of others in party, free in room with parents.

Child - From third birthday up to but not including tenth birthday. Child-price tickets, child price at buffet/AYCE, child price if DDP is purchased, free in room with parents.

Junior - From tenth birthday up to but not including eighteenth birthday - Adult price tickets, adult price for buffet/AYCE, Adult price if DDP is purchased, free in room with parents.

Adult - Age 18 or older, same as Junior, but if more than two adults in a room there is an additional charge per person per night, depending on the Resort.

If you do anything that bypasses these rules you are cheating or telling lies. It is that simple.

The fact that she eats like a bird is irrelevant. Many adults are light eaters too.

Disney rules are children over 9 must purchase the adult dining plan and an adult park ticket.

However, she should still be able to order the food on the kids menu but will have to pay the adult daily price.

I think the OP understands now that lying about the age of her child is cheating and not really possible...therefore, I feel that everyone needs to back off of that issue...the real issue is weighing the options to see if it is worth it to purchase the DDP for his/her family...if it were me, I am wanting to try some of the signature restaurants so I would choose to buy the DDP (with my child listed as a 10 year old) and simply pay out of pocket and order kids meals (which better suit this child's appetite)...I really do not think there will be a problem if it is explained to the waiter (before you order) at TS meals that the child is a light eater and prefers a choice from the kids menu...making sure you tell them you will be paying out of pocket for the kids meal but will be using DDP credits to pay for the adult meals....if you go to buffets or all-you-can-eat meals you simply use her adult credits.

Again, i do not feel this thread was started to find a way to cheat the system...simply a question that the OP did not have an accurate answer to....OP, I hope all works out well and you have a wonderful time what ever you decide to do.

Kudos to you for sticking to the point. I never said anything about buying park tickets either. I am affiliated with a fine dining restaurant $$$ in a resort and if an adult wants to order a kids meal we don't object. if a plate of chicken fingers are ordered at 9.99 who cares who eats it. It's still the same portion and cost to the restaurant whether is goes into a 10 years old mouth or a 20 year old. We certainly don't force people to eat a gourmet dinner if they're not that hungry. The reason kids menus were created is because kids don't eat adult portions and end up throwing out most of the food. I am just trying to determine if spending approx. $280.00 plus grat. instead of $70.00 is worth it for someone who may just eat cheeseburges and fries all week. Either way, DW makes out! Apparently as some have mentioned, there are ways around using the credits and I appreciate greatly all the input. We are still spending thousands of dollars in DW every year even without DDP.

They wouldn't say anything. I've seen many older kids that order off the kids menu.

Have fun and do what is best for YOUR family...I am not sure if the input that was given on this thread was helpful when making your decision to you or not...it really is a personal choice. And as I stated in an earlier post, I am sure you did not ask this question to try and cheat the system (as some have implied)...if we don't know the answer to a question, we ask...sometimes it is misconstrued into something it is not...I say that we should not be so quick to judge...it was an innocent question...take care and feel free to PM me with any further questions you might have if you are afraid to be unfairly judged if you post it publicly

I agree with mkycrzy1971, I don't think anyone who posted here was trying to cheat the system.

How is asking about buying a child's DDP (which OP would mean buying a child's ticket - they have to be bought as a package) for a 10 year old who is supposed to have an adult DDP and ticet not cheating the system?
