I am trying to book a 4 night cruise in July and wanted connecting cat 9 rooms. There are no more connecting rooms in this cat. It will be my DH and me along with our 4 children 3yrs to 11yrs. This may seem crazy to all you seasoned cruisers, but.....do you worry about your little ones on the veranda? I read somewhere that if you thought the kids would climb on the furniture the staff would remove it. My kids do mind well, but they are kids. If I could get connecting rooms with a veranda do you think I will like it? Do you have any more suggestions for a family of 6? Thanks

:wave2: We also have two little ones and even though their is a good safety lock on the door to the outside- I would still keep an eye on the kids because you just never know what could happen.
Call DCL or your agent and see what they think would be the best answer for your family.
Good Wishes and have a ::MickeyMo Good time!

We just sailed with DS4 and DD3 and had a verandah room. I was understandably concerned but reading this board before we sailed helped me a lot. First of all, there's a safety lock inside that is at the top of the door and DH and I had to have our steward show us how to unlock it twice-- and DH is an engineer! Also, the kids were NEVER out there without us and they knew there would be dire consequences if they even looked at the furniture.. :earboy2: But that being said, you need to do what you are comfortable with. You know your children's tendencies best. We were always aware of the verandah and where our children were in relationship to it. But quite frankly, we weren't in the room that much for our concern to become intrusive on a wonderful vacation. But we thoroughly enjoyed the verandah. DH and I used it before the kids woke up and when they were napping. We would also let them come out with us, but actually, they got pretty bored very quickly-- there's usually nothing to look at but water!

I hope this helps-- but in the end, do what you feel is most comfortable for your family. Don't let worry infringe on your wonderful time so if that means foregoing the verandah, that's the way to go in my opinion.

For our first cruise we had a 3 year old. I wanted a verandah room, but Howard said not he was worried our daughter would climb over. We got upgraded to a Navigators verandah and loved it. We got another for the Repo cruise in August. I would not hesitate to get one. I wouldn't allow a child out on the balcony alone though.

Thank you guys for all the useful info. I am especially glad to hear more about that safety latch. My next question....how close are the hallways? Since we probably can't get connecting rooms on the dates we need, do you think it would seem closer to have "next door" rooms or maybe one verenda with an inside stateroom directly across? I'm not even sure that's possible.

I wouldn't have 2 verandah rooms unless they were connecting. I might get the 2nd room across the hall for my 3 older kids, but they would be 13, 16, and 19 when we plan to cruise (our 7yo would be with us). Or we'll do 2 connecting Cat 9 rooms.

I have a gutsy 12 year old..wouldn't even think of a verandah. I mean he probably has more sense than guts, but that is a chance I am not willing to take. I would spend my whole vacation worrying about him.

If you can't get the connecting rooms, I would also vote for the 2nd room being accross the hall from you.

I would also suggest a "baby monitor" so that you can at least constantly hear what's going on across the hall even if you're not in there.
