Venting about Know It Alls

Moral of the story: DO NOT travel to WDW with relatives or friends. They slow you down, do stuff you don't want to do, and make an enjoyable trip absolutely miserable (most of them do, anyway).

Help! I'm going with my INLAWS to WDW for 10 DAYS!!!!!!!!! Help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

My DH discussed this in length and we've determined that:
a. I'm in charge of all planning
b. if they can't keep up, tough!
c. we're going to have a GREAT time no matter what!

:teeth:

THE BIG CHRISTMAS TREE, a holiday special from Little Mammoth takes you behind the scenes to show you the story of the most famous Christmas tree in the world, the Tree at Rockefeller Center! Watch as crews take an 80' tree and fly it to New York in the world's largest cargo plane. Then watch as it's taken through the streets of Manhattan and covered with 26,000 lights! Then one holiday night, the switch is thrown and the lights come on. Learn about the history of the Christmas tree and see a man who has 14 Christmas trees and over 30,000 ornaments! THE BIG CHRISTMAS TREE is a holiday special that includes lots of holiday music and fun. Video will be ready well before the holidays --- plenty of time to make it into stockings!

WOW! I am definitely going to buy this & have DH give it to Mrs. Know-it-all as a "pollyanna'!! He & his suffering co-workers can all have a quiet smile!

Thanks for the heads up! :)
Jean

It's a great video that our local library has. My kids adore it, and so do I! Very interesting. They actually put the tree (after lifting it with a helicopter) onto a big flat bed tractor trailer and then drive the entire thing into the airplane to fly to Rockefeller Center.

I think it would be a perfect gift for her! :rotfl2:

Here's the link to the website. Big Christmas Tree

Do what we do. If they have a cell phone, and they aren't ready/willing to go when/where you go, tell them to call when they want to hook up. If they don't have a cell phone, that's even better.

UGH. I feel your pain. My sis in law (read "has all the connections and hook ups on the planet) was thinking of going to Disney the same week we are.

I tell her, well we won't be running into you much I am sure. She says probably not because they aren't even going to do Disney World because her daughter doesn't like the rides, they will just be staying there and doing Epcot.

I say HELLO!! Epcot is in Disney World, do you mean Magic Kingdom?? She says yes.

And to top it off, she has this really great deal!! She is staying at AKL Savannah view for 140/night - INCLUDING TAX! HA HA HA. Right. First off AP holders get it for 210/night that week. I'd like to see how she managed that one. Standard view maybe but Savannah?? NO WAY!!

I told her wow, she got a really great deal, give me the travel agent she is using because if it is that cheap I want to get that price too. Guess what, she mentioned this on Memorial Day and she still has to get with me on who that person is. :rolleyes2

You don't know how tempted I am to call the front desk and see if they are even in that hotel and then ask what view they have. I am so evil :teeth:

About three years ago a friend followed me to WDW and proceeded to make my trip miserable. I was supposed to be "tour guide". Of course by the time they showed up in the parks (about 10) we had already been riding rides and seeing things for two or three hours and didn't really want to go backwards.

Anyway, this friend recently went back with just her family (two trips - that's it) and she came back telling me exactly how I needed to tour the parks, what I needed to see and where I needed to eat! :rotfl:

I just smiled :teeth:

I work for The Disney Store, and it's amazing the amount of "Know It Alls" we get coming in to buy tickets. One woman called me today and swore up and down that the cost of a 4 day Park hopper was only $100 after I quoted the $215 plus tax rate we have. I explained that $100 wasn't that price even before they went to the MYW system of tickets. She just wouldn't believe me and said that this is what her sister told her we were charging for them (so apparently her sister is the "oh so wise one").

I have people in all the time swearing up and down that Disney has only 3 parks and "they should know because they're there all the time." Sure, ok.

I have people coming in saying tickets prices are outrageous since there's "really not that much to do there, anyway." Then they go on to explain their wonderfully faulty knowledge of the parks.

I get people who will ask me a question, and when I answer it, they will literally argue with me about the answer. The hilarious thing is that their answer is SO off the wall that I simply wish I could go down to the parks will them just to see their faces when they find out I was right.

One woman who will find herself with no luck booking a CRT breakfast was explaining she wanted to book the breakfast. I asked when she was going, she said in August. I told her she would have a VERY difficult time finding anything at all because those book up right away since you can book up to 90 days in advance. I explained that the chances were slim to none, unless by chance someone cancels it. Then I explained about her maybe wanted to check if she could get a PS at Akerhaus instead. She rolled her eyes at me and said I was flat out wrong and she knows for a FACT that you have to book 30 days in advance, not 90 (good luck, lady). When I tried to explain again, she got all huffy and said "you know what? I'm just not going to buy my tickets here because apparently you don't know what you're talking about when it comes to the parks." Again, how I wish I was there to see her face when she finds out the truth.

Know it alls never cease to amaze me. I don't mind those who actualyl DO know what they're talking about, but it's those who think they know what they're talking about and get it all wrong that make me shake my head.

Don't get it: My store manager and his wife and 2 kids are going to the World starting this Sat. So, I asked where are you staying? On site or Off site? First he looked at me like I had 2 heads, and I had to explain what On-site and off site meant. :confused3 He replied, "Oh, on site, its called Westgate Resorts!" Huh? I said, "That resort is OFF SITE!" I had to tell him, and he said: "Well if it is, is very close!" I said: 'Yea, you will still have to leave your hotel in YOUR car, and fight traffic, and DRIVE to the general parking area, and get on the tram to the ticket and transportation area, and THAN you get to the Park!" :rotfl: Needless to say, he was NOT too happy to hear that! :confused3

I've tried to tell my sister that she needs to get Ps's, what her son will enjoy, where to go online for info etc. in a very passive, positive, gentle, I-want- to-help-make-it-easy-on-you way. She's a FL resident and has no clue about all of the perks she can get w/ that. She thinks the World hasn't changed since she went last when we were kids ~ when Epcot was new.She just blows me off. :confused3 Oh well. I really do have her best interest (and my nephew's) at heart and want her to have a good time.

On the positive side, these misinformed/uninformed people won't be competing w/ me for PS's, fastpasses, etc. and they are good for a laugh when we're done gnashing our teeth at them.
